Three Highlanders Earn Academic All-Big West Honors
(May 3, 2002) - Three UC Riverside women's tennis athletes earned Academic All-Big West Conference honors, as announced by the conference on Monday. Those athletes were Caitlin Blashaw (So., Rancho Paols Verdes, CA), Lindsay Litvinoff (So., Redlands, CA), and Carolyn Mitchell (So., Mission Viejo, CA).

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes have to maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, have attained a sophomore standing academically and competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.

Highlanders Earn Honorable Mention Recognition
(May 3, 2002) - The UC Riverside Highlanders capped off their first year in the Big West Conference by placing one singles player on the Honorable Mention All-Big West team, as voted on by the coaches.

On the women's side, freshman Michelle Beyronneau (Yucaipa, CA) was named honorable mention with a record of 10-17.

The women's team finished the season with a 6-13 record overall.

UCSB Defeats UCR, 5-2
(April 25, 2002) - The UC Riverside Highlanders fell to UC Santa Barbara 5-2 at the Big West Tennis Championship on Thursday afternoon at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club in Ojai, CA.

Kelley Takeshita defeated Chelsea Dillion 6-2, 6-1 and Miranda Lagac defeated Amanda Pazornik in three sets accounting for the two Highlander points.

(April 13, 2002) - The UC Riverside Highlanders fell to 6-12 on the season with a 5-2 loss to UC Santa Barbara on Saturday afternoon at the UCR Tennis Courts.

San Francisco Downs UC Riverside 6-1 In Women's Tennis
(April 6, 2002) - USF women's tennis defeated UC Riverside in women's non-conference tennis action, taking a 6-1 victory Saturday afternoon at Golden Gate Park.

Highlander No. 4 Kristina Schuster was the lone singles player to post a win in the match, defeating Anna Skopgerboe of USF, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. In doubles, Kelley Takeshita and Carolyn Mitchell defeated Michelle Duncan and Nikki Kobayashi, 8-4.

Highlanders Rally to Defeat Bowling Green, 4-3
(Mar. 14, 2002) - After having lost the doubles point, the Highlanders rallied back to win four singles matches, including come from behind wins by No. 1 Michelle Beyronneau, No. 2 Kelley Takeshita, and No. 6 Lindsey Litvinoff to take a 4-3 win over visiting Bowling Green at the UC Riverside Sports Complex Friday.

"Coming back to win three singles matches in three sets after playing their fifth match in eight days was incredible," Coach Mark Henry said. "Every player on the court today put everything into their matches."

Kristina Schuster won her match at #4 in two sets.

The Highlanders (5-10), who have won two straight, now take time off for finals. Their next match is April 6 at USF.

(Mar. 13, 2002) - The Highlanders won 4-3 over the injury depleated Salukis of Southern Illinois. Carolyn Mitchell's hard fought 1-6, 6-0, 6-3 win was the difference for UCR at #3 singles and gave UCR the match. UCR is back in action at home against Bowling Green on Friday.

(Mar. 12, 2002) - The Highlanders were swept in a non-conference match by Northern Arizona University at the Student Recreation Center Courts on Tuesday.

Coach Mark Henry said "Northern Arizona played well today. We definitely had chances in the doubles. Kelley (Takeshita) and Carolyn (Mitchell) did a great job of competing hard through their long matches. We'll see if we can bounce back and be ready for Southern Illinois tomorrow."

Highlanders Fall at Idaho, 6-1
(Feb. 8, 2002) - The University of Idaho women s tennis team added a Big West Conference victory to its fast start with a 6-1 victory over UC Riverside at the Lewis-Clark State Tennis Center.

Michelle Beyronneau was the only Riverside winner as she topped Pooja Deshmukh 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match.

The Highlanders lost all three doubles matches to fall behind 1-0 going into singles play. Things did not get better for Riverside as they dropped all six singles. Kelley Takeshita and Carolyn Mitchell each won a set to push their matches into a thrid, but both fell in the third set.

Beyronneau Reaches Main Draw at ITA West Regional
(10/25/01) - Michelle Beyronneau advanced to the main draw of the ITA West Regionals in San Diego, but fell in the first round and was then eliminated in the first round of the consolation round.

Beyronneau lost to #9 seed Petya Marinova of UCLA 6-4, 6-2 in the main draw, then fell to Anastasia Dvornikova of Long Beach State, 6-1, 6-1 in the consolation draw. Beyronneau was the only Highlander to get past the qualifying round. Kristina Shuster lost in the first round to Antonella Castro of UC Irvine. Kelley Takeshita defeated Mayra Mariscal of Cal State Fullerton in the first round and lost to Kristina Boss of UC Irvine in the second round. Beyronneu received a first round bye and lost to Anne Seppi of the
University of San Diego in the second round.

Highlanders Compete at Cal State Fullerton Tournament
(10/14/01) - The women's tennis season kicked off at the Cal State Fullerton Tournament last weekend.

Sophomores Kelley Takeshita, Kristina Schuster and Lindsay Litvinoff were each defeated in the second round of consolation singles, which were played as eight-game pro sets. Takeshita lost to Stephanie Westrich of Cal Poly, 8-3, Schuster lost to Veronica Wagner of Cal State Northridge, 8-1, and Litvinoff fell to Lindsay Marvel of Long Beach State, 8-0. Freshman Michelle Beyronneau fell in the second round to Danielle Hustedt of Cal Poly, 7-6, 3-6 (10-8). Sophomore Carolyn Mitchell lost to Aleksandra Kujawska of Pepperdine, 6-4, 6-1.

In doubles play, the team of Takeshita and Schuster reached the semi-finals before losing to Boss and Chang of UC Irvine, 8-4. The pair had defeated teams from LBSU, UCI, and Southern Utah to reach the semis.
