(Oct. 20, 2007) - The UC
Riverside Highlanders completed play at the ITA Western Regional
Tennis Tournament in San Diego Thursday and Friday.
All four Highlanders competing
in the back draw of the tournament lost Friday. Anete Bandere
of Pepperdine defeated UCR's Erynne Oki, 6-0, 6-3, Stephanie
Bengson of Long Beach State defeated Donna McCullough, 6-0,
6-1, LBSU's Jessica Weeks def. H.R. Espiritu (UCR) 6-4, 4-6,
(10-4), and Kanykey Koichumanova of Northridge def. Angelique
Corpuz in a nailbiter, 7-5, 7-6. Oki and McCullough each won
their first round (round of 128) match, but all four lost
their second round matches Thursday.
In doubles play, the team
of Oki and Corpuz, who won their first-round match on Thursday,
lost Friday to Fansler and Andrews of USC, 8-2.
