(Oct. 5, 2007) The UC Riverside
Highlanders sent a pair of singles players to the round of
16 and had both doubles teams make the round of 16 at the
Cal State Fullerton Tennis Tournament in Fullerton Friday.
Junior Erynne Oki and sophomore
Donna McCullough advanced past the second round of the main
draw. McCullough teamed with Yasaman Sakhakorn and Oki paired
up with Roxanne Plata to reach the round of 16 in doubles
play.
Oki won her first round-match
with a solid 6-0, 6-1 win over Jennifer Paet of Cal State
Bakersfield, then won her second-round match with Ashley Litchfield
of Fullerton, 6-3, 6-2.
McCullough defeated Jaycee
Cruz of Fullerton in the first round, 6-3, 603, then posted
a 6-3, 6-0 win over Isabella Kasselstrand of Bakersfield.
Sakhakorn lost her first-round
match to Northridge's Kanykey Koichumanova, 6-4, 6-1. In the
second round, Plata, who received a first-round bye, fell
to Erin Wiesener of Fullerton, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, Oki and
Plata had an 8-6 win over Ojeda and Mutzke of UCSB, and McCullough
and Sakhakorn defeated Stowell and Andrews of Fullerton, 8-3.
The tournament continues Saturday.
