Nets Highlanders First Points Of Conference Season
(October 10, 2008) – The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team,
currently on a two-game road trip to Northern California, picked
up its first points of the conference season Friday evening
with a scoreless tie at UC Davis. The Aggies outshot UCR 26-5
on the day, but Brittany Goetz (Irvine, CA) came through with
11 saves, including one on a penalty kick in the second half,
to preserve the tie.

Highlanders Drop 4-1 Decision To Cal Poly
(October 5, 2008) – The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team
dropped its second Big West match of the season on Sunday afternoon
losing 4-1 to Cal Poly. Ashley Parks' (Etiwanda, CA) header
in the second period made the score 3-1, but the Highlanders
couldn't find the back of the net the rest of the way.

(October 3, 2008) – The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team
played host to #23 UC Santa Barbara - the preseason favorite
among Big West coaches to win the conference title this season
- in the first conference tilt of the year for both programs
Friday evening at the UCR Soccer Stadium. Tessa Lennala (Temecula,
CA) scored the Highlanders' lone goal of the evening taking
a Candis Novis (Murrieta, CA) pass with 25:11 gone in the first
and pushing it past UCSB keeper Ali Cutler for a 1-0 lead.

(September 28, 2008) – The UC Riverside Women's Soccer
Team got back on the winning track Sunday evening at the UCR

in five matches. Heidi Garrett (Riverside, CA) scored her Big-West
leading seventh goal of the season in the match.

(September 19, 2008) – The UC Riverside Women’s Soccer Team

Mohammadi's Header Gives UCR 1-1 Tie With La Salle
(September 14, 2008) – Senior midfielder Sarah Mohammadi's
(Upland, CA) header with just over 26 minutes remaining knotted
the Highlanders match with La Salle, but neither squad could
score during regulation or the two overtime periods as the
teams walked away from the pitch with a 1-1 tie.

Heidi Garrett's Pair Of Goals Not Enough As Oregon Tops UCR 3-2 in 2 OT
(September 12, 2008) – Sophomore forward Heidi Garrett
(Riveside, CA) scored two goals for the Highlanders in a neutral
site meeting with Oregon Friday afternoon on the campus of
Long Beach State, but it wasn't enough as the Ducks scored
the game-winner with 4:28 remaining in the second overtime
period to take the 3-2 win. Garrett leads the Big West Conference
with six goals - three more than her nearest competitor.

(September 7, 2008) – Sophomore forward Heidi Garrett
(Riverside, CA) scored a pair of goals less then three minutes
apart in the first half to propel the Highlanders to a 4-0
win over visiting San Jose State Sunday afternoon. The win
improves UC Riverside's record to 4-2-0 on the season

UCR Drops 1-0 Squeaker
To Sacramento State
(Sept. 5, 2008) – The UCR Women's Soccer Team dropped
a tight 1-0 decision to Sacramento State on Friday evening
in the first-ever night game at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium.
The Hornets got the better of the play in the first and dented
the back of the net with just over seven minutes remaining
in the period outshooting the Highlanders 8-5 along the way.
UC Riverside came out of the halftime break in a more aggressive
fashion outshooting Sacramento State 16-8 in the second period.
Despite several good looks, the Highlanders were never able
to get past the Hornets' keeper.
Next up for UCR is a Sunday afternoon match aginst San Jose
State at 1 p.m. at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium.
UCR Hosts Pair Of Weekend Games
(Sept. 2, 2008) – The UCR Women's Soccer Team's (3-1)
looks to get back on the winning track this weekend with a
pair of home games at the UCR Soccer Stadium. Sacramento State (1-1-1)
comes to Riverside on Friday for the first-ever home night match
in Highlanders history. Kick off is scheduled for 7 pm. On Sunday
San Jose State (0-2-2) makes its way to UCR for a 1 pm start.

Late Penalty Kick Ends Highlanders Undefeated Run
(August 31, 2008) – The UCR Women's Soccer Team's (3-1)
perfect season came to an end Sunday afternoon as a Creighton
penalty kick with 45 seconds left in the match gave the Jays
a 2-1 win over the Highlanders. Heidi Garrett (Riverside,
CA) scored UCR's lone goal of the match with 9:59 gone in
the second period to knot the score at one apiece.

UCR (3-0) Remains Undefeated Following 1-0 Road Win Over Nebraska
(August 29, 2008) – Three games into the 2008 women's
soccer season and UC Riverside is still unbeaten and unscored
upon following a 1-0 road win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
It is just the second time in the eight-year history of the
program that the Highlanders have opened a season with three
consecutive shutouts. The first was in 2004 when they began
the year with four straight blankings of the opposition and
won their first nine games on their way to a 13-2-4 mark on
the year.

To The Road For Pair Of Games In The Cornhusker State
(August 26, 2008) – After opening the 2008 women's soccer
season with two straight shutouts, the Highlanders head to
the Cornhusker state this weekend where they will take on
Nebraska (Friday, August 29 at 3:30 pm PT) and Creighton (Sunday,
August 31 at 11:00 am).

(August 24, 2008) – The UC Riverside women's soccer
team posted its second consecutive shutout to open the 2008
season with a 4-0 win over the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners
on Sunday afternoon at the UCR Soccer Stadium.

Soccer Opens 2008 Season With 5-0 Win Over Southern Utah
(August 22, 2008) – The UC Riverside women's soccer
team began its 2008 season with a 5-0 win over the Thunderbirds
of Southern Utah. It is the second consecutive season-opening
win for the Highlanders who ran their overall season-opening
record to 5-2-1. 2007 Big West Offensive Player of the Year
Tessa Lennala got the Highlanders started with a penalty kick
17:37 into the game, and it was all they needed as the goalkeeping
duo of Brittany Goetz and Jessica White were forced to make
just one save between them.

UCR Women's Soccer
Opens Friday At Southern Utah
(August 18, 2008) – UC Riverside’s fall sports
schedule gets underway this Friday as the women’s soccer
program travels to Southern Utah to take on the Thunderbirds
in the first meeting of the season for both clubs. The Highlanders
are coming off of an injury-riddled 2007 campaign that saw
them miss the double-digit win mark for the first time since
their inaugural season of 2001.
Week 1 Game Notes
Leading the offensive charge for the Highlanders once again
in 2008 is 2007 Big West Offensive Player of the year Tessa
Lennala whose eight goals from a year ago paced the conference.
Those eight goals were also good enough to place the Temecula,
CA senior in a three-way tie for second on the UCR single-season
goal-scoring list. Also back for UC Riverside this season
is All-Big West Honorable Mention honoree and Mexican National
Team player Letty Villalpando.
The Highlanders begin the home portion of their 2008 schedule
on Sunday, August 24 at 2 pm at the UCR Soccer Stadium as
they host CSU Bakersfield. Twelve days later, on September
5, UC Riverside hosts Sacramento State in the first-ever night
game at the UCR Soccer Stadium. It is the first of six night
home games for the Highlanders this season.
UCR’s Big West Conference schedule begins at home on
October 3 as the Highlanders host UC Santa Barbara at 6 p.m.

Schedule Features Five 2007 NCAA Tournament Foes
(June 24, 2008) – UC Riverside Head Women's Soccer Coach
Veronica O'Brien announced today that the Highlanders 2008
schedule will feature five matches against 2007 NCAA Tournament
participants in addition to a full slate of Big West Conference
games. The team also hosts its first-ever night match on Friday,
September 5 against 2007 Big Sky champion Sacramento State.

Closes Out Spring Season On A High Note
(May
30, 2008) – The UC Riverside women’s soccer team
finished up the spring season recently with its final spring
games against Cal State Northridge, University of Nevada-Las
Vegas, and California Baptist University. Their final mark
of 5-3-1 leaves the Highlanders in a good position as the
team breaks off for finals and summer break.
Braveheart Award Presented
To Jillian Del Rosario
(May 28, 2008) –The
Braveheart Award is given to a UCR coach or student athlete
who demonstrates exemplary courage during the academic year
and the 2007-08 recipient is the very definition of courage.
On October 19, 2007 senior midfielder Jillian Del Rosario
went up for a header in a home match against Cal State Northridge,
collided with the Matadors keeper, and was immediately knocked
unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital where it was determined
that she had lost temporary speech and motor control.
The injuries Del Rosario sustained forced her to withdraw
from school as she underwent weeks of intense rehabilitation.
She vowed to return for the team's final home game, Senior
Day, and she did so giving an emotional pregame speech. Del
Rosario also returned to school in the winter taking a full
course load as she was determined to graduate with her class.
She is on track to graduate this spring, earning all As and
Bs in the process, and is currently applying to graduate school.
Mohammadi Earns Second Straight
Lindy Award
(May 28, 2008) –
With the Lindy Citizenship Award, the UC Riverside Athletics
Department honors a student athlete who has demonstrated exceptional
dedication by participating in extracurricular activities
in the community and at the university. For the second time
in as many years, the Lindy Citizenship Award recipient is
women's soccer player Sarah Mohammadi. Among other things,
the junior team captain has been co-director of UCR's Golden
Arches – Student Athlete Mentors program for the past
two seasons, participates in the GET 60 program which promotes
healthy living and exercise to elementary school students,
works with Bill's Special Kids in developing a soccer program
for mentally and physically challenged children, is a two-time
NCAA Leadership Conference attendee, and is a member of ESAT
(Excellent Scholar Athlete Team).

Producing A Solid Spring Season
(Apr. 14, 2008) – The UC
Riverside women’s soccer team finished the first part
of their spring season with wins over Azusa Pacific and Cal
State San Bernardino played at Cal State Fullerton. The two
wins give the Highlanders a mark of 3-2-1 as the break off
for finals and spring break.

Named Big West Offensive Player of the Year
(Nov. 13, 2007) – The Big
West conference announced Tuesday afternoon that UC Riverside’s
junior forward Tessa Lennala was named Big West Offensive
Player of the Year. Senior defender Jillian Del Rosario earned
second team honors and sophomore Letty Villalpando received
honorable mention.

Loss for UCR to End Season
(Nov. 4, 2007) – A season
that was marred by injuries for the UC Riverside Highlanders
(8-9-1, 2-5-1) came to an end Sunday against the Anteaters
of UC Irvine (11-6-2, 5-2-1) by a 2-0 score in Irvine.

Effort Not Enough For Highlanders on Senior Day
(Oct. 28, 2007) – In a day
that belonged to UC Riverside’s four seniors, Cal State
Fullerton (10-6-1, 5-2-0) scored two second half goals to
edge UCR (8-8-1, 2-4-1) 2-1 in front of a season-high 245
spectators at UCR Soccer Stadium.

(Oct. 19, 2007) – The UC
Riverside Highlanders (8-6-1, 2-2-1) fell to the Matadors
of Cal State Northridge (3-9-1, 1-3-1), 2-0 on a very hot

(Oct. 15, 2007) – Junior
forward Tessa Lennala was named the Big West Conference’s
Co-Player of the Week, for the second time this season, after
her performance this past weekend. Sharing the honor with
Lennala is UC Irvine freshman forward Tanya Taylor.

(Oct. 14, 2007) – Tessa Lennala’s
second goal in as many games gave UC Riverside (8-5-1, 2-1-1)
a 2-1 double overtime victory over the visiting UC Davis Aggies
(5-8-0, 1-3-0) at the UCR Soccer Stadium.

(Oct. 12, 2007) – The UC
Riverside Highlanders (7-5-1, 1-1-1) fell behind early, but
scored the equalizer against the Pacific Tigers (6-4-3, 1-1-1)

(Sept. 23, 2007) – The UC
Riverside Highlanders (5-3) failed in their second attempt
to defeat a ranked team as they fell 3-1 to the 25th-ranked
University of San Diego Toreros, Sunday afternoon at the UCR
Soccer Stadium. Earlier in the season the Highlanders fell
to #22 Oregon.

(Sept. 21, 2007) – For the
third consecutive time, the UC Riverside (4-2-0) women’s
soccer team won convincingly over their visiting opponent.
This time the Highlanders defeated the Fresno State Bulldogs

Oregon’s
Second Half Too Much for UCR
(Sept. 7, 2007) – The Higlanders
(2-1) couldn’t stop the #19 Oregon (3-0) offense in
the second half, as the Ducks scored all five of their goals
in the second 45 minutes. UCR held the Ducks in check in the
scoreless first half but two quick goals in the later frame
led to a 5-1 Oregon win.

Holds on to Early Lead in Win Over Toledo
(Sept. 2, 2007) – The UC
Riverside (2-0) women’s soccer team built a 3-0 lead
over the first 65 minutes of it’s match againt Toledo
(0-1-1) and then held on late, in winning 3-2.

Second Half Surge Secure Opening Day Victory
(August 31, 2007) – The UC
Riverside (1-0) women’s soccer team found itself down
two goals to none to Florida Atlantic (0-1) after one half
of play in the San Diego State Tournament. Three second half
goals in a span of two minutes erased the deficit and gave
the Higlanders their first win of the season.

(August 27, 2007) - Former UC Riverside
women's soccer player Kerri Fahres and part-time assistant
coach Lane Davis have been hired as full-time assistant coaches

Camp Postponed
(July 5, 2007) - The 2007 UC Riverside
men's and women's ELITE soccer camps have both been postponed
until a later date due to construction at the UCR Soccer Stadium.
The camps, originally scheduled for July 9-19, will be rescheduled

Sign Six for 2007 Season
(April 12,
2007) - UC Riverside women’s soccer has signed six players
to National Letters of Intent, UCR Head Women’s Soccer
Coach Veronica O’Brien announced Thursday. The six signees
will join several other well-decorated players who will be
joining the Highlander squad in the fall.
