Announces 2008-09 Women's Basketball Schedule
(September 18, 2008) - UC Riverside Head Women’s Basketball
Coach John Margaritis announced today that the Highlanders
have released their complete 2008-09 schedule.

To Face Oklahoma In 2008 Preseason WNIT
(July 7, 2008) - Tournament organizers for the 2008 Preseason
Women’s National Invitational Tournament announced the
16-team field today and the UC Riverside Highlanders will
travel to Oklahoma for a first-round game against the Sooners
on Saturday, Nov. 15. Oklahoma was ranked 19th in the nation
at the end of last season in the USA Today Coaches’
Poll and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the ninth consecutive
season. The remainder of the UC Riverside women’s basketball
schedule will be released later this month.

Add Jason Flowers To Coaching Staff
(July 1, 2008) - UC Riverside Head Women’s Basketball
Coach John Margaritis announced today that the Highlanders
have hired Jason Flowers to fill the vacancy on their coaching
staff left when Seton Sobolewski left to become the head coach
at Idaho State University.
“I’ve known Jason for a number of years now,”
said Margaritis, “and we’ve spoken at length over
that time about coaching philosophies and how we approach
the sport, so I’m excited to be adding him to our coaching
staff. He brings an understanding of the game, an ability
to teach the game and a well-deserved reputation as a coach
who can get the most out of a player’s skill at the
collegiate level. His familiarity with the Southern California
recruiting landscape also helped make him a perfect fit for
our program.”
Glyniadaki, Good and Schmuckal Named Big West Academic All-Conference
(April 8, 2008) - Four members of the UC Riverside
men's and women's basketball teams were honored today with inclusion on the
2007-08 Big West Academic All-Conference Team for winter sports: Katerina Glyniadaki,
Courtney Good and Jessie Schmuckal on the women's squad and Christian Soto for the men.

(Feb. 23, 2008) - Four Highlanders
finished in double-figures as UCR earned their sixth consecutive
win after beating Cal State Fullerton (8-18, 6-8 Big West)

Gbewonyo had a team-high 18 points for UC Riverside who improved

(Feb. 20, 2008) - The UC Riverside
defense made 12 steals and forced 20 Anteater turnovers in
their 72-52 win over UC Irvine in Irvine, CA Wednesday night.
Sophomore Brittany Waddell knocked down four three-pointers
and finished with a game-high 22 points for the Highlanders
(12-11, 9-2 Big West) who earn their fifth win in a row.

Waddell continued to light it up from the floor, finishing
with a game-high 18 points for the Highlanders who beat Long
Beach State 67-39 at the Student Rec Center in Riverside Wednesday
night. Junior Seyram Gbewonyo scored one point on the night
to become the school's 11th player to score 1,000 points in
a career.

(Feb. 9, 2008) -Sophomore Brittany
Waddell’s career-high of 29 points led UC Riverside
to a 69-62 victory over the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners

(Feb. 4, 2008) -The Big West Conference
announced Monday that UC Riverside junior forward Tainoisouti
Lott has been named the Woman's Basketball Player of the Week

(Feb. 2, 2008) - UC Riverside returned
to their winning form by taking a 67-55 decision from Cal
Poly up in San Luis Obispo Saturday afternoon. The win allows
the Highlanders (8-11, 6-2 Big West) to take sole possession

Lott’s Career-Highs Not Enough As UCR Falls To UCSB
(Jan. 31, 2008) - Junior Tainoisouti
Lott’s career-highs of 27 points and 13 rebounds weren’t
enough as UC Riverside saw their record slip to 7-11 overall
and 5-2 in the Big West after dropping a 73-61 decision to
UC Santa Barbara up in Santa Barbara Thursday night.

lead the Highlanders (3-9, 1-0) who finished with 10 players

Second Fresno State Free-Throw Beats Highlanders
(December 29, 2007) - UC Riverside
rallied back from a nine-point halftime deficit to the Fresno
State Bulldogs to tie the game with 3.6 left in the game.
Emma Andrews was fouled and made one of two free-throws to
give the Bulldogs (4-8) the 68-67 last second victory Saturday
afternoon.

(December 21, 2007) - UC Riverside
dropped a hard fought game, 71-60 to the UCLA Bruins (5-6)
at Pauley Pavilion Friday afternoon. Three Highlanders finished
in double figures led by junior Seyram Gbewonyo who finished
with a game-high 17 points for UCR (2-8) in the losing effort.

(Brookings, SD) –The UC Riverside
women's basketball team lost to South Dakota State 93-90 in
double overtime Sunday afternoon in Brookings, SD. Sophomore
Brittany Waddell led the Highlanders in scoring for the second
straight game after finishing with a game-high 22 points.

(Minneapolis, Minn.) – A strong
second half from the Golden Gophers (1-0) was enough to erase
a six-point UC Riverside (0-1) halftime lead as the Highlanders
fell 57-49 Friday night in the season opener beforea crowd

(Nov. 1, 2007) – The UC Riverside
women’s basketball team will be receiving their 2006-07
Big West Championship rings at halftime of the Highlanders
men’s basketball exhibition game against UC San Diego

On Top of Preseason Polls
(Oct. 24, 2007) – UC Riverside
was selected to claim its second consecutive Big West Conference
women’s basketball regular season title, as voted by
the coaches and media during the conference’s annual
basketball media day. UC Santa Barbara was picked second in
both polls, while first-year member UC Davis earned the third
spot in the coaches’ poll and Cal Poly grabbed third
place in the media poll.

Remain Successful on Greece Trip
(Sept. 7, 2007) – The UCR
women’s basketball team enjoyed two more victories on
their foreign tour of Greece. Wednesday they took on Apollo
and won convincingly 71-38. Against the club team Siemens
on Thursday, the score was 68-49 in favor of the two-time
Big West Champions.

Win First Game on Greek Trip
(Sept. 5, 2007) - The UC Riverside
Highlanders women's basketball team's tour of Greece has been
an exciting success so far. On the court, the Highlanders
got their first win of the trip with an 80-55 win over Artemis
in Volos. After lunching with the team earlier in the day,
the Highlanders went out and posted an 80-55 win behind 21
points by Jesse Schmuckal - including four threes. Tainoisouti
Lott had 16 points and Katerina Glyniadaki had 13 points.

Women's Basketball Team to Travel to Greece
(August 22, 2007) – The UC
Riverside women’s basketball team will be traveling
to Greece on August 30 for a 14 day tour. While in Greece
the team will be playing six games against four different
club teams and will be visiting the cities of Athens, Volos,
Thessaloniki and Kastoria.

Hensen Joins UCR Coaching Staff
(May 4, 2007) – UC Riverside
has hired Jody Hensen as an assistant coach, Head Women’s
Basketball Coach John Margaritis announced Friday. Hensen
comes to UCR following several successful assistant coaching
stops throughout the country. Her primary responsibility will
be to serve as the Highlanders’ recruiting coordinator.

Purdom to Transfer to UCR
(May 4, 2007) – Brittany Purdom,
a 6-3 forward formerly of Texas Christian University, will
transfer to UC Riverside and join the women’s basketball
team, UCR Head Coach John Margaritis announced Friday. Purdom
will enroll at UCR for the summer quarter and will have two
years of eligibility remaining after she redshirts the 2007-08
season, per NCAA Transfer Regulations.
