(Oct. 31, 2001) - The UC
Riverside women's basketball team signed its first player
of the 2001 early signing period Tuesday, as 6-0 guard Kirsten
Muir of Crestline, CA signed a National Letter of Intent.
Muir will graduate from
Rim of the World High School in the Spring and will enter
UCR as a freshman. Kirsten is a three-time letterwinner and
led her team to two league championships. She is a three-time
first team all-league honoree, while also being named Skyline
League MVP and All-San Bernardino County by the San Bernardino
Sun during her sophomore campaign. Last season, Muir averaged
12.8 ppg and 7.4 rpg.
(April 16, 2002) - The UC
Riverside women's basketball team signed its first two players
of the 2002 late signing period Tuesday, as 5-11 guard/forward
Kristin Peters of Yorba Linda, CA and 6-1 forward Jodi Reber
of Twin Falls, ID signed a National Letters of Intent.
Peters will enter UCR as a junior after making stops at Cal
State Dominguez Hills and Fullerton Community College. As
a freshman at Dominguez Hills, she started every game, averaging
8.6 ppg and 6.3 rpg. At Fullerton, she led her team to a 24-11
record, averaging 20.1 ppg and 8.5 rpg while being named First
Team All-State.
Reber will enter UCR as a sophomore, transferring from the
College of Southern Idaho after one year. Jodi averaged 8.2
ppg and 4.6 rpg in 18.1 minutes per game. CSI is out of the
Scenic West Athletic Conference and finished the season at
11-20 overall and 10-8 in conference.
(April 22, 2002) - The UC
Riverside women's basketball team signed its third player
of the 2002 late signing period Monday, as 6-2 post Agnes
Frankovits of Arkansas City, KS signed a National Letter of
Intent.
Frankovits, a native of Hungary, will enter UCR as a sophomore
after attending Cowley County Community College in Kansas.
The team finished 28-4 and 17-1 in the Jawhawk Eastern Division,
losing in the Region VI Tournament. She averaged 4.6 ppg and
3.3 rpg on a well-balanced team.
"Agy adds size in the four position, but also has three-point
range and can spot up from three in transition," Head Coach
Jennifer Young said. "She is a big, strong player who can
add to our high-low game."
(Sept 5, 2002) - The University
of California, Riverside women's basketball program has hired
Seton Sobolewski as an assistant coach, Head Coach Jennifer
Young announced Wednesday.
Sobolewski spent last season
as an assistant men's coach at Yavapai College under Head
Coach Dolph Carroll where they led the Roughriders to a 19-12
record and a playoff berth. Prior to Yavapai College, he returned
to his high school alma mater, Coconino High School in Flagstaff,
Arizona, as an assistant women's coach. Prior to coaching
at Coconino, Sobolewski was a student assistant at Northern
Arizona under Head Coach Meg Sanders.
His duties included breaking
down game tape, scouting opponents, on the floor instruction
and color commentary for the Lumberjack women's basketball
team.
"I am very excited
to add Seton to our coaching staff," Young said. "His
experience with both men and women is a great addition, especially
in working with the post players."
Sobolewski attended Eastern
Arizona College, starting on the men's basketball team for
two years. He moved on to Oklahoma Panhandle State where he
was selected to Who's Who in America's Colleges and Universities
in 1998.
Sobolewski graduated from
Northern Arizona University in 2001 with a bachelor's degree
in biology and emphasis in secondary education.
He is a member of the Women's
Basketball Coaches Association. His hobbies include playing
basketball, golfing, fishing, camping and lifting weights.
He resides in Grand Terrace.
(May 1, 2002) - The UC Riverside
women's basketball team added its fifth and sixth players
of the 2002 late signing period Friday, as 5-8 guard Trecha
Kennedy of Los Angeles, CA signed a National Letter of Intent
and 6-3 center Astrid Spegel of Brazil accepted a scholarship.
Spegel will enter UCR as a junior after attending Western
Nebraska Community College where she averaged 7.9 ppg and
grabbed 4.7 boards per game. Astrid also led the region in
block average with 1.97 blocks per game.
"Astrid will add intimidation and size to the front court
with the ability to block shots and be an enforcer," Head
Coach Jennifer Young said. "She is crafty around the basket
and a scoring threat."
Kennedy will enter UCR as a junior after attending Cowley
County Community College in Kansas. The team finished 28-4
and 17-1 in the Jawhawk Eastern Division, losing in the Region
VI Tournament. Trecha averaged 12.0 ppg on 48% from the field
and led the team in rebounding at 5.9 rpg. She was named MVP
of the Jawhawk Eastern Division.
"Trecha is a great athlete and is going to make an impact
at both ends of the floor," Head Coach Jennifer Young said.
"She is a floor leader and adds experience and quickness both
offensively and defensively."
The Highlanders finished their first official year in Division
I with a 16-13 record and 12-4 in the Big West, tied for second
in the conference.
(April 26, 2002) - The UC
Riverside women's basketball team signed its fourth player
of the 2002 late signing period Friday, as 6-3 LaKeima Stephens
of Chino Hills, CA signed a National Letter of Intent.
Stephens will enter UCR as a junior after attending Mount
San Antonio College where she averaged 14.8 ppg on 53% from
the field and grabbed 10.2 boards per game. LaKeima was a
part of two South Coast Conference Championships and appearances
in the California Junior College final eight and California
Junior College State Championship game.
"Keima will add much needed rebounding help to our front line,"
Head Coach Jennifer Young said. "She is big, strong player
who will give us a physical presence inside."
(Nov 6, 2002) - The 2002-03
Big West Preseason polls and all-conference teams were announced
on Wednesday at Big West Media Day in Irvine, CA.
The Highlanders had two
players make the preseason all-conference team, voted on by
the media. Junior Crystal Harris and sophomore Casandra Reeves
were joined by Gillian d’Hondt (UOP), Kari Duperron
(CP), Kristen Mann (UCSB) and Lindsay Taylor (UCSB).
The women’s basketball
coaches picked the Highlanders to finish seventh with 30 points.
The reigning Big West Champion, UC Santa Barbara Gauchos were
picked first with 64 points (eight first place votes) while
the University of the Pacific received the other first place
vote and finished second with 53 points while Long Beach State
was third with 46 points. In the media poll, UCR was picked
fourth as the top three remained the same as in the coaches
poll with the Gauchos receiving all 14 first place votes.
On the men’s side,
Riverside was picked tenth in both the media and coaches poll
with 39 and 9 points respectively. UC Santa Barbara, Utah
State and UC Irvine were the top three finishers in each poll.
In the coaches poll, UCSB garnered 77 points (6), USU had
73 (3), and UCI received 69 (1). In the media poll, Santa
Barbara had 246 (14), Utah State had 231 (9) and Irvine had
217 (3).
The men’s all-conference
team included Varnie Daniels (CP), Branduinn Fullove (UCSB),
Mark Hull (UCSB), Adam Parada (UCI), Desmond Penigar (USU)
and Pape Sow (CSF).
(Nov 10, 2002) - The UC
Riverside Highlanders fell in their season opener against
First String 70-62 in an exhibition
at the Student Recreation Center in Riverside on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams struggled to
open the game as the score stood 2-1 in favor of Riverside
at the 14:40 mark. First Sting guard Jackie Hemann broke the
scoreless streak when she hit a three-pointer and a jumper
for a 6-2 lead with 13:59 left in the half. UCR answered with
a 13-4 run, including five points by junior Trecha Kennedy,
to go up 15-10 however First String scored five straight points
to tie the game at 15-15. The teams exchanged the lead seven
times over the rest of the half but First String had the final
word with a jumper by Crystal Miles-Threatt to take a 35-33
halftime lead.
At the start of the second
half, First String outscored the Highlanders 7-3 to open up
a seven-point advantage at 43-35. UCR closed the margin to
43-41, with all six points by junior center Astrid Spegel,
but First String answered with a 12-0 run, eight from Danielle
Golay, to go up 55-41 and cruised the rest of the way for
the 70-62 win.
The Highlanders shot 25-of-68
(36.8%) from the field and 5-of-19 (26.3%) from behind the
arc. First String hit on 25-of-59 (42.4%) from the field and
2-of-8 (25.0%) from three-point range. The big discrepancy
came at the free throw line where First String hit 18-of-34
(52.9%) to 7-of-14 (50.0%) for UCR. The turnover battle was
even at 16 each, but UCR was outrebounded 50-38.
Junior guard Trecha Kennedy
made a solid debut leading the Highlanders with 14 points
and four assists. Junior forward Crystal Harris had 11 points
and five rebounds.
Golay (USC, 2000) led the
visitors with 22 points and 17 rebounds but hit only 4-of-14
from the free throw line. Crystal Miles-Threatt (St. Mary’s
2001) had 19 points and three steals
The Highlanders return to action on the road at Southern Utah
on Friday, November 22 at 7:00 PM.
(Nov 20, 2002) - The UC
Riverside women's basketball team signed its first player
of the 2002 early signing period Wednesday, as 5-6 point guard
Brittney Nicolls of Fresno, CA signed a National Letter of
Intent.
Nicolls will graduate from
Clovis West High School in the Spring and will enter UCR as
a freshman. Brittney led her team to two league championships
and two Valley Championships. She was a two-time all-city
player during her sophomore and junior year.
“Britt is a scoring
point guard with great feel for the game,” Head Coach
Jennifer Young said. “She has good court sense and her
ability fits right in with the direction we are taking this
program.”
UCR plays in their season
opener on Friday, November 22 at Southern Utah University.
(Nov 22, 2002) - Junior
Trecha Kennedy led all scorers with 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting
but the UC Riverside Highlanders fell to the Southern Utah
University Thunderbirds in their season opener 65-57
at the Centrum in Cedar City, Utah on Friday night.
The Highlanders were up
19-15 with five minutes left to go in the opening half, but
the Thunderbirds (1-0) used a 17-3 run over the final minutes
of the half and the first two minutes of the second frame
to take a 32-22 lead with 17:58 remaining in the game. UCR(0-1)
closed the gap to 44-39 with 11 minutes left, but SUU responded
with a decisive 13-2 spurt - sparked by a Casey Cooke trey
- to take a commanding 57-41 lead with 7:31 to go. Riverside
tightened the margin with two Kennedy three-pointers in the
final minutes.
The Thunderbirds outrebounded
the Highlanders 52-31, including a 22-10 edge on the offensive
glass, with junior Lacey Yates and sophomore Sarah Hutton
each with a career-high 12 boards.
Cooke scored a team-high
19 points on 6-of-11 from the field, including five three-pointers
in seven attempts while adding five rebounds, four assists
and a steal. Shauntal Garrett had 17 points, the only other
Thunderbird in double figures.
Junior LaKeima Stephens
had 10 points including 8-of-10 from the line and six rebounds
while sophomore Casandra Reeves added 10 points and four steals
The Highlanders shot 14-of-52
(26.9%) from the field, 5-of-15 (33.3%) from three-point rande,
and 24-of-29 (82.8%) from the line to help stay in the game
and overcome misses from the field.
The Thunderbirds shot 21-of-61
(34.4%) from the field, 7-of-22 (31.8%) from beyond the arc
and 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the line.
The Highlanders return to
action on the road at Loyola Marymount University on Monday,
November 25 at 7:00 PM.
(Nov 25, 2002) - The UC
Riverside Highlanders fell to the Loyola Marymount Lions,
77-53 at Gersten Pavilion
in Los Angeles, CA on Monday night.
Junior guard Trecha Kennedy
opened the second half hitting two free throws to cut the
Lion margin to 34-28, but LMU used a decisive 17-4 run to
take control of the game and extend the lead to 51-32 with
12:08 remaining in the game. The Highlanders never got closer
as Loyola Marymount cruised the rest of the way.
The Highlanders were once
again had problems on the glass being outrebounded 47-32 and
the Lions won the turnover battle 21-8. Riverside shot 19-of-45
(42.2%) from the field, 2-of-6 (33.3%) from three-point range,
and 13-of-16 (81.3%) from the line while Loyola Marymount
shot 28-of-71 (39.4%) from the field, 4-of-14 (28.6%) from
behind the arc, and 17-of-30 (56.7%) from the free throw line.
Kennedy, a Los Angeles product
out of Inglewood High School, led the Highlanders with 14
points and six rebounds. Sophomore Agy Frankovits added 13
points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Jennifer Valdez had a
career-high nine points.
Senior forward Kate Murray
led the Lions with 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting and four
rebounds. Junior guard Raelen Self added 13 points and sophomore
forward Monica Turner had 11 points.The Lions (1-0) opened
the game with six straight points and led throughout the first
half building their biggest lead at 32-20 with 3:29 remaining
in the half. The Highlanders (0-2) cut the lead to 32-26 behind
a layup by junior LaKeima Stephens and two free throws each
by Frankovits and Stephens. Freshman Rachel Ziemann hit a
jumper in the last minute to give the Lions the 34-26 halftime
lead.
Riverside was plagued by
13 first half turnovers and were also out-rebounded 23-16,
accounting for Loyola Marymount taking 13 more shots.
Junior starting forward
Crystal Harris did not play for the second consecutive game
due to an ankle sprain.
The Highlanders return to
action for their home opener against Northern Arizona Univeristy
on Friday, November 29 at 7:00 PM.
(Nov 29, 2002) - The UC
Riverside Highlanders lost in their home opener against Northern
Arizona 78-51 at the Student
Recreation Center in Riverside, CA on Friday night.
In the first half, the Highlanders
(0-3) were down 18-15 after two free throws by sophomore forward
Agy Frankovits with 7:47 left in the half, but Riverside did
not make a field goal the rest of the half as NAU outscored
them 18-1 to end the half. UCR shot only 5-of-25 (20.0%) in
the half and had 15 turnovers. The Lumberjacks (2-2) hit 15-of-30
(50.0%) including 6-of-11 (54.5%) from behind the arc.
Riverside got as close as
15 at 36-21 in the second half after a jumper and a three-pointer
by sophomore guard Casandra Reeves but the Lumberjacks cruised
the rest of the way.
Overall, Northern Arizona
shot 31-of-58 (53.4%) from the field and 10-of-18 (55.6%)
from three point range while Riverside shot 16-of-64 (25.0%)
from the field and 6-of-21 (28.6%) from behind the arc. The
Highlanders were outrebounded 43-41 but were up 25-16 on the
offensive glass. The game was also sloppy with each team over
20 turnovers as NAU had 23 to UCR's 22.
Reeves led the Highlanders
with 18 points including four three-pointers, a career-high
seven steals and six assists. Frankovits added 11 points and
five rebounds.
Senior forward Jen Snitker
led the Lumberjacks with 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting and
grabbed eight rebounds. Junior guard Lacey Tolbert added 13
points and five rebounds. Freshman guard Kim Winkfield added
12 points on four three-pointers and senior guard Lindsey
Foster had 11 points, including three treys.
The Highlanders return to
action against on the road at the University of Arizona Tournament
on December 6 and 7. Friday's game is at 1:30 PM local time
against the University of Arizona.
(Dec 6, 2002) - The UC Riverside
Highlanders fell to the #21 University of Arizona Wildcats
95-66 in the Fiesta Bowl
Women's Basketball Classic at the McKale Center in Tucson,
AZ on Saturday afternoon.
In the second half, UCR
scored the first two buckets to narrow the lead to 46-39,
but the Wildcats used a 19-6 run, eight by sophomore guard
Dee-Dee Wheeler, to regain contol and take a 65-45 lead with
13:26 left in the game. Once again, the Highlanders came back,
cutting the margin to 68-58 after a 13-3 run with 9:50 to
go but Arizona overpowered UCR at the end with a 27-8 run
for the final score, 95-66. Riverside was also out-rebounded
29-11 in the second half.
Overall, Riverside shot
23-of-62 (37.1%) from the field, 6-of-17 (35.3%) from three-point
range, and 14-of-18 (77.8%) from the line. Arizona shot 37-of-71
(52.1%) from the field, 10-of-28 (35.7%) from behind the arc,
and 11-of-19 (57.9%) from the line. The Wildcats outrebounded
UCR 51-26 for the game and 20-9 on the offensive glass.
Junior center LaKeima Stephens
led the Highlanders with 17 points and seven rebounds while
junior guard Trecha Kennedy and Harris had 13 points each.Sophomore
Casandra Reeves had 11.
Wheeler led the Wildcats
with 28 points on 10-of-14 shooting, 23 in the second half,
while freshman center Shawntice Polk added 18 points and 16
rebounds. Senior forward Krista Warren had 16 points and junior
Aimee Grzyb had 15.
The Highlanders opened the
game with seven turnovers in the first seven minutes and the
Wildcats (3-1) took advantage with a 24-5 run. However, the
Highlanders (0-4) overcame the tough start, answering with
an 11-2 run to close the gap to 26-16 with 9:53 remaining
in the half. Arizona pushed the lead to 19 at 46-27 with 1:58
remaining but UCR scored the final eight points of the half
to cut the margin to 46-35.
In the first half, Arizona
shot 18-of-35 (51.4%) from the field and hit 5-of-15 (33.3%)
from behind the arc. Riversie hit 12-of-29 (41.4%) from the
field and hit 5-of-9 (55.6%) from three-point range.
The Highlanders return to
action tomorrow in the consolation game against North Texas
at 1:30 MST.
(Dec 7, 2002) - The UC Riverside
Highlanders lost to the University of North Texas Lady Eagles
82-66 in the consolation
game of the Fiesta Bowl Women's Basketball Classic at the
McKale Center in Tucson, AZ on Sunday afternoon.
North Texas used a 16-4
run early in the second half to gain their biggest margin
at 55-33 with 14:22 left in the game. The Highlanders chipped
away and closed the gap to 11 at 70-59 after four straight
points by sophomore guard Casandra Reeves with 4:20 left in
the game, but that was as close as UCR would get.
Overall, the Highlanders
shot 23-of-59 (39.0 %) from the field and 5-of-18 (27.8 %)
from behind the arc while the Lady Eagles shot 30-of-71 (42.3%)
from the field and 10-of-21 (47.6%) from three-point range.
At the line, UCR was 15-of-18 (83.3%) and North Texas was
12-of-17 (70.6%). Riverside won the rebounding battle by one
in the second half, but Riverside was still outrebounded 46-35
for the game.
Junior center LaKeima Stephens
led the Highlanders with 19 points and seven rebounds while
Reeves had 13 points.
Junior guard Heather Trout
led the Lady Eagles with 16 points while freshman forward
Jamie Armstrong and junior forward Kim Blanton had 13 points
each. Freshman guard Erika Bobo had 12 and senior forward
Angel Lewis had 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Highlanders (0-4) got
off to another slow start to begin the game, falling behind
10-2 after four minutes. Riverside chipped away at the lead
and got to 24-23 with 5:36 remaining but the Lady Eagles (3-2)
answered with an 15- 4 to end the half with a 39-27 advantage.
UCR was outrebounded 28-16
in the first half and shot 11-of-29 (37.9%) from the field
and 1-of-7 (14.3%) from three-point range while North Texas
shot 16-of-40 (40.0%) from the field and 4-of-10 (40.0%) from
three point range.
The Highlanders return to
action on Saturday, December 14 at home against Sacramento
State at 2:00 PM.
(Dec 14, 2002) - The UC
Riverside Highlanders overcame a 13-point second half deficit
to defeat the Sacramento State Hornets 65-56
at the Student Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets (0-7) opened
the second half with a 21-9 run to take their first lead and
extend to a 47-36 advantage with 11:25 to go. However, the
Highlanders (1-5) rebounded behind the play of sophomore guard
Casandra Reeves to outscore Sac State 29-9 the rest of the
way. With the deficit at 13, Reeves jump started the team
hitting junior Crystal Harris for a layup then launched back-to-back
three-pointers to cut the deficit to five at 47-42.
Reeves led the Highlandes
with 17 points, five rebounds and four steals. Junior center
LaKeima Stephens had14 points and four rebounds while junior
forward Crystal Harris added 12 points and eight rebounds.
UCR shot 24-of-50 (48.0%) for the game but hit 14-of-23 (60.9%)
in the second half. Riverside helped their cause hitting 14-of-20
(70.0%) free throws to 5-of-11 (45.5%) for the Hornets.
UCR caused 24 Hornet turnovers
while commiting 18 and were beaten on the boards 34-28.
Freshman forward Sarah Craig
led the Hornets with 13 points and nine rebounds and junior
guard Dolores Olivarex had 13 points. Junior forward Danielle
Iceman had 10 points and four rebounds. Sac State shot 24-of-53
(45.3%) from the field but hit only 3-of-15 (20.0%) from three-point
range.
In the first half, the
Highlanders and Hornets were tied 8-8 at the 12:48 mark but
UCR used an 11-4 run, capped by a Stephens' layup to pull
ahead 19-12. Riverside was still up by seven with 3:21 to
go but Sac State ended the half with an 8-2 run to close the
gap to 27-26 at the half.
Both teams were plagued
by missed shots and turnovers. Riverside shot 10-of-27 (37.0%)
from the field and 6-of-6 from the line while Sacramento State
hit 12-of-29 (41.4%) but only 1-of-5 (20.0%) from the line.
The Hornets had 11 turnovers to eight for UCR who was outrebounded
19-17.
The Highlanders return to
action on Tuesday, December 17 at home against Eastern Washington
at 7:10 PM.
(Dec 17, 2002) - The UC
Riverside Highlanders fell to the Eastern Washington Eagles
47-35 at the Student Recreation
Center on Tuesday night.
In the second half, EWU
was up 28-20 but used a 17-3 run to take control and push
the margin to 22. UCR had a 7-0 run to end the game and close
the final margin to 12 but the Eagles maintained control.
The game was full of missed
shots and turnovers but the Eagles (6-2) made fewer mistakes
and hung on for the win. UCR shot only 7-of-33 (21.2%) in
the second half and 14-of-57 (24.6%) overall while the Eagles
hit 18-of-55 (32.7%) for the game. Riverside didn’t
help themselves at the line hitting only 4-of-13 (30.8%).
The Highlanders finally
won a battle of the boards outrebounding the Eagles 52-35
but turned the ball over 28 times to 18 for EWU.
Sophomore Casandra Reeves led the Highlanders with 13 points
and a career-high seven rebounds. Junior LaKeima Stephens
added 11 points and five rebounds. Freshman Kirsten Muir had
a game-high nine rebounds.
Sophomore guard Stephanie
Ulmer led the Eagles with 11 points and three rebounds while
junior guard Jacqueline Rigtrup added nine points and four
rebounds.
In the first half, UCR
could not maintain control of the ball, turning it over 17
times while EWU had nine turnovers. The Highlanders also shot
poorly from the field, hitting 7-of-24 (29.2%) and 1-of-5
(20.0%) from three-point range. The Eagles were a little better,
hitting 9-of-27 (33.3%) and 2-of-5 (40.0%) from three-point
range.
The score was tied at 11
with 7:26 to go but Eastern Washington 14-3 run to go up 25-14
before Harris hit a layup for the 25-16 margin at the half.
The Highlanders return to
action at home on Thursday against Point Loma Nazarene at
7:10 PM.
(Dec 19, 2002) - Sophomore
guard Casandra Reeves had 22 points to lead the UC Riverside
Highlanders from a 15-point second half deficit to defeat
the Point Loma Nazarene Lady Crusaders 69-64
at the Student Recreation Center in Riverside, CA on Thursday
night.
The Crusaders (7-3) took
their biggest lead of the game at 49-34 after a three-pointer
by sophomore guard Jessica Mercado with 17:30 to go in the
game. However, UCR used a 20-5 run, 10 by Reeves, over six
and a half minutes to nod the score at 54-54. The game was
still tied at 64 until a Crystal Harris jumper with 41 seconds
left, giving UCR their first lead of the game. The Highlanders
hit three free throws down the stretch to seal the 69-64 win.
Reeves’ back court
mate Trecha Kennedy added 22 points and three steals for the
Highlanders while junior center LaKeima Stephens had 11 points
and 10 rebounds for the first double-double of the season
for UCR. The Highlanders shot 27-of-70 (38.6%) from the field
and 9-of-24 (37.5%) from three-point range.
Mercado led the Crusaders
with 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists while junior
center Zaneta Drungilaite added eight points and nine rebounds.
Senior guard Corey Zimbelman had 11 points. Point Loma shot
24-of-57(42.1%) from the field and 7-of-17 (41.2%) from behind
the arc.
The Crusaders outrebounded
the Highlanders in the game but UCR had a 27-16 advantage
in the second half. Riverside also had the advantage in turnovers,
causing 21 and committing only 13.
In the first half, the
Crusaders were not intimidated by the Highlanders, jumping
out to a quick 11-0 lead after three minutes. UCR cut the
margin to 11-7 but PLN used a 10-0 run to extend to 21-7 with
13:08 left in the half. Riverside cut the deficit to seven
on several occasions and it was 36-29 with 43 seconds in the
half but Point Loma hit a three-pointer and a layup for the
halftime score of 41-29.
Point Loma had the advantage,
hitting 16-of-30 (53.3%) from the field while Riverside hit
12-of-35 (34.3%). PLN also had a huge advantage on the boards
27-13.
The Highlanders return to
action after Christmas with a game at home against Portland
State at 7:10 PM.
(Dec 28, 2002) - The UC
Riverside Highlanders overcame another slow start to defeat
the Portland State Viking 67-58
at the Student Recreation Center in Riverside on Saturday
night.
The Highlanders (3-6) were
down 47-45 with 9:23 remaining in the game when sophomore
guard Holly Peterson hit a three-pointer to give UCR a lead
that they would never give up. The Vikings (4-5) were down
by three at 61-58 with 1:33 left but UCR scored the final
six points of the game for the final margin.
Riverside shot 23-of-61
(37.7%) from the field and 6-of-12 (50.0%) from three-point
range while Portland State shot 21-of-66 (31.8%) from the
field and 4-of-16 (25.0%) from behind the arc. UCR was 15-of-22
(68.2%) from the line and PSU was 12-of-15 (80.0%).
Sophomore guard Casandra
Reeves led the Highlanders with 20 points and three assists.
Junior forward Crystal Harris had the first double-double
of her career with 16 points and 11 rebounds while sophomore
forward Jodi Reber had her best game of the year with 12 points
and six rebounds.
Sophomore guard Heidi Stuart
led the Viking with 18 points and four rebounds. While sophomore
center Carrie Spencer had a double-double with 10 points and
11 rebounds. Riverside held Viking leading scorer Nikki Petticrew
to five points, down from 15.6 ppg, on 2-of-14 shooting and
five turnovers.
The Highlanders were outrebounded
47-44 but won the turnover battle causing 22 and committing
19.
In the first half, the Vikings
jumped out to an early 20-8 lead after eight and a half minutes,
but the Highlanders chipped away at the lead, tying the game
at 30-30 at halftime.
UCR shot 13-of-35 (37.1%)
from the field while PSU shot 11-of-34 (32.4%) from the field.
The turnover battle was even at nine and Portland State had
a slight advantage on the boards 26-24.

action on Monday against the University of Portland with a

(Dec 30, 2002) - Sophomore
guard Casandra Reeves (Apple Valley, Calif.) was selected
as this week's women's basketball Big West Player of the Week,
announced by the conference on Monday.
Reeves' 20 points paved
the way for the Highlanders' second straight victory and third
in their last four games. The sophomore guard scored 20 points
on 6-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point land
and 4-of-5 from the
free-throw line in UCR's 67-58 victory against Portland State.
She has led Riverside in scoring five times this season and
her 74 career three-pointers moves her into fourth on the
team all-time list. She has scored in double digits in eight
of UCR's nine games and leads the team in scoring at 14.3
ppg.
(Dec 30, 2002) - The UC
Riverside Highlanders fell to the University of Portland Pilots
54-53 at the Student Recreation
Center in Riverside on Monday night.
The Highlanders (3-7) extended
their lead to 36-24 with 16:44remaining in the half but the
Pilots (4-6) chipped away and took their first lead of the
game on a three-pointer by freshman guard Whitney Grant to
put the Pilots up 48-47 with 1:49 left in the game. UCR guard
Trecha Kennedy came right back to hit a three-pointer to put
UCR up 50-48 but senior guard Ashlee Giles hit two free throws
to tie the game at 50-50.
Junior forward Khalila O'Reilly-Williams
hit a layup with 26.3 seconds left to put the Pilots up 52-50.
On Riverside’s possession, junior Crystal Harris was
fouled with 7.5 seconds left by Cecily O'Rielly-Williams and
hit 1-of-2 to cut the score to 52-51. Reeves fouled sophomore
Hanna Seltzer, who hit both free throws for the 54-51 lead.
UCR has one last possession and Harris hit a layup at the
buzzer and Riverside fell 54-53.
Harris tied her career-high
with 22 points and had four rebounds. Sophomore guard Casandra
Reeves added seven points and four assists while junior center
LaKeima Stephens had seven points and six rebounds. Riverside
shot 20-of-54 (37.0%) from the field and 2-of-10 (20.0%) from
three-point range.
O'Reilly-Williams led the Pilots with 22 points and 13 rebounds
while Giles added 10 points and five rebounds. Portland shot
17-of-52 (32.7%) from the field and 5-of-15 (33.3%) from behind
the arc.
Portland had the advantage
at the line, hitting 15-of-22 (68.2%) to 11-of-16 (68.8%)
for Riverside. UCR outrebounded Portland 42-35, but had 13
second half turnovers and 21 overall to 18 for the Pilots.
In the first half, the Highlanders took an early 12-4 with
14:48 remaining after back-to-back baskets by junior forward
Crystal Harris. The Vikings cut the margin to two at 13-11
but Riverside pushed the lead back to eight at the half, 30-22.
UCR held Portland to only six field goals in the opening frame,
three treys, as they shot 6-of-26 (23.1%) and forced them
into 13 turnovers. The Highlanders shot 12-of-33 (36.4%) from
the field and committed eight turnovers. UCR held the rebounding
edge 25-21. The Pilots kept the game within reach by hitting
7-of-11 from the free throw line.
The Highlanders return to
action at home on Thursday night against Gonzaga University
at 7:10 PM.
(Jan 2, 2003) - The UC Riverside
Highlanders fell to the Gonzaga University Bulldogs 64-55
at the Student Recreation Center in Riverside on Thursday
night.
In the second half, the
Highlanders (3-8) scored the first two buckets to get as close
as 32-30 but the Bulldogs (8-5) scored six straight to up
their lead to 40-32 with 16:02 left in the game. It was still
a two-point game at 42-40 but Gonzaga used a decisive 13-4
run to take a comfortable 55-44 advantage with 6:45 left in
the game and went on to the 64-55 win.
Junior guard Trecha Kennedy
led the Highlanders with 23 points, 8-of-11 from the line,
and four assists while sophomore guard Casandra Reeves had
nine points and three assists. UCR shot 16-of-54 (296%) from
the field and 4-of-13 (30.8%) from three-point range.
Sophomore forward Delphine
Lecoultre led the Bulldogs with 16 points, nine rebounds and
eight blocks off the bench while sophomore guard Shannon Mathews
had 18 points and six assists. GU shot 23-of-56 (41.1%) from
the field and 6-of-20 (30.0%) from behind the arc.
The Bulldogs outrebounded
UCR 47-32 overall while UCR forced 20 turnovers and committed
16. The Highlanders did have an advantage at the line, shooting
19-of-24 (79.2%) to 12-of-18 (66.7%) for Gonzaga, as there
were 37 fouls called in the game.
UCR opened the game with
a 9-5 lead but Gonzaga used a 20-6 run to take a 25-15 lead
with 5:31 remaining in the first half. The Bulldogs were still
up by 10 but the Highlanders hit the last two baskets of the
half to cut the margin to 32-26 at the half.
The Bulldogs gained the
advantage mostly on the glass, outrebounding UCR 28-18 and
using the advantage to take 15 more shots than the Highlanders.
Gonzaga shot 13-of-40 (32.5%) from the field, including 4-of-16
(25.0%) from behind the arc while the Highlanders shot 8-of-25
(32.0%) from the field. Riverside stayed in the game by hitting
7-of-8 (87.5%)from the line.

action on Saturday night, opening Big West play at home against

(Jan 4, 2003) - The UC Riverside
Highlanders opened Big West play with a loss to the Cal Poly
Mustangs 86-67 at the
Student Recreation Center in Riverside on Saturday night.
The Mustangs (5-7, 1-1)
opened the second half with a 14-5 spurt to open up a 21-point
lead at 61-40 with 12:13 remaining in the game. The Highlanders
(3-9, 0-1) cut the lead to 15 but could not get any closer
as Cal Poly pushed the lead to as many as 27 and settled for
the 19-point win.
Sophomore guard Casandra
Reeves led the Highlanders with 18 points, 4-of-5 from trey
land, while junior forward Crystal Harris had 15 points and
five assists. In only her third start of the year, junior
center Astrid Spegel had 10 points and seven rebounds. Riverside
shot 25-of-62 (40.3%) from the field and 6-of-12 (50.0%) from
three-point range.
Freshman guard Jennifer
Dooley led the Mustangs with a career-high 16 points, four
treys, while freshman guard Courtney Uphoff added 10 points
off the bench. The freshman duo hit 6-of-11 from three-point
range. Sophomore forward Holly Richards had 14 points and
five rebounds and junior center Kate Valdes had 11 points.
Cal Poly hit 33-of-63 (52.4%) from the field, their best percentage
of the year, and 10-of-21 (47.6%) from behind the arc.
The Highlanders were outrebounded
38-35 and the turnover battle was even at 16 each.
In a kinetic first half,
Cal Poly was on fire, hitting 8-of-17 (47.1%) from three-point
range and 19-of-35 (54.3%) from the field in route to a 47-35
halftime lead. UCR was solid from the floor, hitting 14-of-31
(45.2%) and 3-of-4 from behind the arc.
The Mustangs took an early
19-11 advantage but the Highlanders used an 11-2 run to go
up 22-21 with 9:19 left in the first half. The teams exchanged
the lead on nine occasions over the next five minutes, however,
Cal Poly had the last word, using a 17-4 run to end the half.

(Jan 9, 2003) - The UC Riverside
Highlanders had four players in double figures but committed
a season-high 30 turnovers in their loss to the Long Beach
State 49ers 79-65 at the
Pyramid in Long Beach, CA on Thursday night.
The 49ers (5-8, 2-0) opened
the second half with a 16-5 run to take their biggest lead
of the game at 49-32 with 14:40 remaining, however the Highlanders
(3-10, 0-2) battled back, cutting the margin to 62-54 with
6:52 left but would not get any closer.
The Highlanders shot 26-of-63
(41.3%) from the field and 5-of-15 (33.3%) from three point
range while the 49ers shot 27-of-58 (46.6%) from the field
and 7-of-20 (35.0%) from three point range. At the line, UCR
hit 8-of-11 (72.7%) to 18-of-21 (85.7%) for LBSU and 17 in
the second half.
The 49ers outrebounded UCR
40-32 and the two teams combined for 59 turnovers and 34 fouls.
Junior forward Crystal Harris
led four Highlanders in double figures with 17 points and
eight rebounds while sophomore forward Agy Frankovits had
a career-high 15 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard
Casandra Reeves had 12 points while junior center Astrid Spegel
had 10 points.
Senior forward Jinga Gosschalk
led the 49ers with a career-high 21 points and sophomore guard
Candice Wilson had a career-high 19 points and eight assists.
Senior forward Glory Johnson had 16 points and eight rebounds..
In a sloppy first half,
the Highlanders had 20 turnovers while the 49ers had 13. UCR
managed only 10 field goals in 21 attempts (47.6%) while Long
Beach hit 14-of-29 (48.3%).
The 49ers used a 12-2 run
to take a 13-8 advantage with 13:49 left in the first half,
but UCR regained the lead at 15-13 after a three-pointer by
Reeves. The lead was short lived as Long Beach took the lead
at 20-18 and pushed it to as many as seven at 29-22. LBSU
took a 33-26 advantage into the locker room behind 23 points
from Wilson and Gosschalk.
The Highlanders return to
action on Saturday night at UC Irvine with a game time of
7:00 PM.
(Jan 11, 2003) - Junior
forward Crystal Harris had a career-high 26 points but the
UC Riverside Highlanders fell to the UC Irvine Anteaters 79-72
at the Bren Center in Irvine on Saturday night.
In the second half, the
Anteaters (9-5, 2-1) used a12-4 run to take their biggest
lead of the game at 59-50 with 10:27 left in the game, but
the Highlanders (3-11, 0-3) battled back to within 61-60 at
the 6:30 mark but could not get any closer as Irvine held
on for the 79-72 win.
Irvine hurt themselves at
the line, hitting only 10-of-25 (40.0%) while Riverside hit
15-of-18 (83.3%).
Sophomore guard Casandra
Reeves had 21 points, five assists and five rebounds. Sophomore
forward Agy Frankovits added 13 points and nine rebounds.
Overall, UCR shot 26-of-58 (44.8%) from the field and 5-of-16
(31.3%) from three-point range.
Junior forward Christina
Callaway led the Anteaters with a career-high 25 points and
nine rebounds while senior guard Wendy Gabbe had 18 points.
Junior guard Kristen Green added 12 points and sophomore guard
Lisa Faulkner had 10 points and nine assists. Irvine shot
31-of-66 (47.0%) from the field and 7-of-19 (36.8%) from three-point
range.
Irvine outrebounded Riverside
40-34 and had 12 turnovers to 14 for UCR.
The Highlanders started
the game in a zone defense and the Anteater outside shooters
hit four three-pointers in route to an 18-11 lead with 14:37
left in the half. Riverside switched to man-to-man, shutting
down the Irvine gunners and used an 11-2 run to take a 22-20
advantage. The two teams went back and forth the rest of the
way, however, UCI had the last word taking a 39-38 lead into
halftime.
For the half, Riverside
shot 13-of-30 (43.3%) from the field but hit 9-of-10 (90.0%)
from the line. Irvine hit 17-of-35 (48.6%) from the field,
but hit 5-of-12 (41.7%) from three-point range.

action on Saturday night at home against Cal State Fullerton

(Jan 18, 2003) - Sophomore
forward Agy Frankovits had her first ever double-double with
18 points and 19 rebounds, both career-highs, to lead the
UC Riverside Highlanders past the Cal State Fullerton Titans
49-47 at the Student Recreation
Center on Saturday night.
In the second half, the
Titans (3-12, 1-2) used an 11-2 run to take a 30-29 edge but
the Highlanders (4-11, 1-3) answered right back with a 10-2
run to regain the advantage at 39-31 with 10:45 remaining
in the game. CSF would not give up, chipping away and tying
the game at 43 with 4:07 left. The teams traded baskets and
then Frankovits hit back-to-back buckets to put UCR up 49-45.
Junior Rochelle Ortega made a layup to get Fullerton within
two but the Titans missed five shots in the final 1:11 as
Riverside held on 49-47.
Riverside outrebounded an
opponent for only the third time this season, taking 47 to
37 for Fullerton. UCR forced 17 turnovers and committed 15.
At the free throw line, the Highlanders hit 10-of-11 (90.9%)
to 7-of-15 (46.7%) for the Titans.
Junior guard Trecha Kennedy
added 11 points and three steals and junior forward Crystal
Harris had 10 points. Riverside shot 18-of-62 (29.0%) from
the field and 3-of-11 (27.3%) from three-point range.
Ortega led the Titans with
13 points and seven rebounds while junior guard Tamara Quinn
had nine points and six rebounds. Fullerton shot 18-of-51
(35.3%) from the field and 4-of-14 (28.6%) from three-point
range.
The Titans set the tempo
early, taking a 7-2 lead but the Highlanders gained their
first lead at 12-11 on a Crystal Harris jumper. The teams
battled back and forth until UCR used an 11-0 run to go up
23-15 with 3:36 left in the half. UCR kept the lead and went
into the locker room with a 25-19 lead.
Both teams struggled in
the first half as UCR shot 8-of-29 (27.6 %) from the field
and CSF shot 7-of-23 (30.4%) from the field. Riverside held
the edge at the free throw line, hitting 7-of-7 to 4-of-8
for Fullerton. The Highlanders also held the rebounding edge
22-18 and the turnover battle 10-7.

action on Thursday at home against UC Santa Barbara at 7:10

(Jan 23, 2003) - The UC
Riverside Highlanders lost to the #21 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos
70-58 at the Student Recreation
Center on Thursday night.
Riverside (4-12, 1-4) opened
the second half rejuvenated, scoring the first six points
to cut the lead to 36-32 but Santa Barbara (12-3, 5-1) answered
with a 16-5 run, highlighted by five points from Gaucho guard
Jess Hansen, pushing the margin back to double digits at 52-37
with 9:25 left in the game.
UCSB took their biggest
lead of the game at 63-44 with 3:52 left, but UCR made a furious
rally in the final minutes, cutting the lead to 63-54 with
1:49 remaining, but it was not enough as the Gauchos hit 7-of-8
free throws down the stretch and held on for the 70-58 win.
Junior forward Crystal Harris
led the Highlanders with 16 points on 6-of-18 shooting and
six rebounds while sophomore guard Casandra Reeves had 14
points and four steals. Sophomore forward Agy Frankovits had
13 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Holly Peterson
had a career-high nine points.
Hansen led the Gauchos with
20 points on four three-pointers, while back court mate Debby
Caine had 11 points on three treys and four assists. Brandy
Richardson had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Leading scorer Lindsay
Taylor was held to four points and four rebounds, down from
14.7 ppg and 7.9 rpg.
Santa Barbara had 30 turnovers
in the game to 19 for Riverside while the rebounding total
was in UCSB's favor at 32-29. However, the Gauchos shot a
blistering 23-of-39 (59.0%) from the field, 7-of-13 (53.8%)
from three-point range and 17-of-20 (85.0%) from the line.
The Highlanders shot 21-of-59 (35.6%) from the field, 4-of-12
(33.3%) from trey land, and 12-of-16 (75.0%) from the line.
In the first half, the Gauchos
couldn't hold on to the ball while the Highlanders couldn't
shoot the ball. UCSB had 15 turnovers, 10 in the first 10:30
while UCR shot 10-of-31 (32.3%) from the field. Santa Barbara
hit 13-of-20 (65.0%) from the field, 4-of-6 (66.7%) from three-point
range and 6-of-7 (85.7%) from the line.
Caine opened the game hitting
two treys as UCSB raced out to an early 10-2 lead, however
Peterson hit a layup and a three-pointer sandwiched between
a Harris jumper to cut the margin to 10-9.
The two teams traded buckets
but Santa Barbara still led 16-14 with 11:51 in the first
half until Taylor hit a layup to make it 18-14 with 9:48 left.
Both teams hit a dry spell as each team went scoreless until
Hansen hit a three-pointer, putting her team up 21-14 with
6:03 remaining. Santa Barbara held Riverside scoreless for
almost seven minutes until Harris hit a jumper at the five-minute
mark.
UCSB took their biggest
lead at 31-18 after a mini 6-0 run but UCR answered with a
6-0 run of their own. Hansen hit a three to take the lead
up to double digits and took a 36-26 lead into the half.

at 7:10 PM in the Student Recreation Center.
(Jan 25, 2003) - The UC
Riverside Highlanders lost to the University of Idaho Vandals
75-58 at the Student Recreation
Center on Saturday night.
At the free throw line,
UCR hit 17-of-23 (73.9%) while UI had a huge advantage, hitting
27-of-31 (87.1%) overall and 23-of-24 (95.8%) in the second
half. The Highlanders were called for 22 personal fouls, 14
in the second half, to 17 for the Vandals.
The Vandals (6-12, 4-4)
opened the second half with a 10-2 run, eight by junior guard
Alyssa Erickson, to take a 32-28 advantage with 17:19 left
in the game. Idaho was still up 41-39 but used a 9-2 run to
extend the margin to 50-41 with 8:43 remaining.
The Highlanders (4-13, 1-5)
got to within five at 50-45 with 7:46 left but could not get
any closer as UI used a 10-2 run to end the game and gained
their biggest lead with the final 75-58 margin.
Sophomore forward Agy Frankovits
led the Highlanders with 14 points and eight rebounds before
fouling out with four minutes left while junior forward Crystal
Harris had 10 points and eight rebounds but also fouled out
in the last few minutes. Sophomore forward Jodi Reber added
10 points.
Freshman guard Autumn Fielding
led the Vandals with a career-high 24 points, 4-of-4 from
three-point range and 8-of-8 from the line, while Erickson
had 16 points. Sophomore guard Heather Thoelke had 12 points
and nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Keisha Moore had eight
points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Overall, Riverside shot
19-of-62 (30.6%) from the field while Idaho shot 20-of-50
(40.0%). UI hit 8-of-20 (40.0%) from three-point range to
3-of-12 (25.0%) for UCR. Idaho outrebounded UCR 44-35 but
had 17 turnovers to 12 for Riverside.
Reeves opened the game by
hitting a three-pointer, but the Vandals scored 10 unanswered,
highlighted by Thoelke and Fielding hitting back-to-back treys.
The Highlanders missed eight consecutive shots and were held
scoreless for just under seven minutes.
The Highlanders answered
with a 10-2 run to take the lead at 13-12 with 9:45 remaining
in the half. The two teams traded baskets for the next several
minutes, but Riverside had the last word, scoring the final
seven points to take a 26-22 halftime lead.
Both teams shot poorly in
the first half as UCR shot 8-of-31 (25.8%) from the field
and Idaho shot 7-of-26 (26.9%) from the field. UI hit 4-of-13
(30.8%) from three-point range and 4-of-7 (57.1%) from the
free throw line while Riverside hit 2-of-7 (28.6%) from behind
the arc and 8-of-11 (72.7%) from the line.
Highlander center Astrid
Spegel was hurt midway through the second half, suffering
a concussion. Riverside returns to action on the road on Thursday
against the University of the Pacific at 7:00 PM.
(Jan 30, 2003) - In a game
made more interesting by who wasn't playing the under-manned
UC Riverside Highlanders lost to the University of the Pacific
Tigers 87-83 in double
overtime at the AG Spanos Center in Stockton, CA on Thursday
night.
Riverside suited up only
seven players as two more were added to the injured list this
week, Agy Frankovits (knee) and Astrid Spegel (concussion),
as each are day-to-day. Jennifer Valdez played but was out
most of the week with the flu. Pacific leading scorer Gillian
d'Hondt did not suit up after being suspended by the NCAA
for two games. The Highlanders had three players fouled out
and finished the game with only four players for the last
two and a half minutes.
In overtime, the Tigers
used a 8-4 run, with back-to-back treys by Alissa Tarsuik,
to take a 64-60 lead. Riverside came back to take a 65-64
lead on a Holly Peterson bucket. Tarsuik answered with a bucket
of her own but sophomore Casandra Reeves hit 1-of-2 free throw
to tie it at 66. Senior Vanessa Dupont hit a bucket but Peterson
answered with a three, however Dupont tied it at 69 with a
free throw and the game went into double overtime.
In the second overtime,
Riverside had no answer for Dupont who scored eight of the
Tigers' 18 points. UOP took a 83-75 lead with :53 seconds
left however UCR hit 3 treys to get within 86-83 but fell
short, losing 87-83.
UCR pushed the lead to eight
on two occasions in the early part of the second half but
UOP used a 7-0 run to get within one at 40-39 with 11:58 remaining.
Dupont hit a bucket to give
the Tigers their first lead since the first minute of the
game at 41-39 with 9:09 left but Riverside used a 10-2 run,
highlighted by back-toback treys from Peterson and Reeves,
to go ahead 50-43 with 6:35 left. A 7-0 run by the Tigers
tied the score at 50-50 with 2:10 to go.
The two teams traded baskets
but then Harris hit a pair of free throws and Reeves hit a
10-foot jumper to put UCR up 56-52. However, Pacific guard
Corinne Wong hit a free throw and after a Harris missed layup,
junior Nancy Dinges hit a three-pointer to tie it at 56 with
23 seceonds left. Peterson missed a shot at the buzzer with
Tiger players hanging all over her and the game went into
overtime.
Reeves led the Highlanders
with a career-high 32 points on 13-of-22 while Peterson had
a career-high 21 points on 8-of-16.Harris had 17 points and
seven rebounds. UCR shot 32-of-76 (42.1%) from the field and
10-of-22 (40.0%) from three-point range.
Dupont led the Tigers with
24 points, 12-of-16 from the line, while Tarsiuk had 19 points
on 8-of-8 shooting. Dinges had 17 points and senior Mischa
Clark added 10. UOP shot 30-of-62 (48.4%) from the field and
7-of-15 (46.7%) from behind the arc.
Pacific led the rebounding
battle 51-33 but lost in turnovers, committing 27 to 17 for
Riverside. UOP hit 20-of-33 (60.6%) from the line while UCR
hit 9-of-15 (60.0%).
Peterson opened the game
on fire scoring the Highlanders first eight points and leading
to an early 10-3 lead at the 17-minute mark. The Tigers closed
the gap to four but UCR had a 9-0 run, five by Reeves, to
extend to 20-9 with 11:13 left in the half.
Pacific used a 12-2 run
to close the gap to 22-21 with 6:28 remaining but Riverside
went into the half with a 30-26 lead.
The Tigers hurt themselves
by turning it over 13 times to seven for the Highlanders.
Pacific shot 11-of-27 (40.7%) from the field while UCR shot
12-of-34 (35.3%), including four treys.
The Highlanders return to
action on Saturday night at Cal State Northridge at 7:00 PM.
