Genisauski Qualifies For NCAA Regional at Cal Poly Invite

(March 29, 2008) – Senior Melissa Genisauski became the latest Highlander to qualify for the NCAA Regional, after throwing 159’ 11.25” to finish second in the discus at the Cal Poly Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Genisauski also produced in the hammer throw, putting up a third-place mark of 167' 06.” UCR also had four athletes claim individual titles.

Allison Wilder won the women’s triple jump with a mark of 40’ 10” and Whitney Leachman also won her 200m race with a time of 24.81. Uchechi Egeonuigwe was the first to cross the line in the 400m event after posting a time of 56.70. Wilder, Leachman, and Egeonuigwe all continued to produce dominant performances in their respective events throughout the 2008 season.

In the men’s long jump, Terry Smoot Jr. saved his best mark of the day for his last attempt. He jumped 23' 2.25” in his final effort to take home first place in the event.

In other men’s events, Elvin Tahab places second in the high jump (6' 6.50”), Marcus Marbrey finished second in the highly competitive 400m hurdle race, running a 54.33. Marselis Irving finished second in the triple jump (46' 9”) and third in the long jump (22’ 7.25”).

The Highlanders will compete at the Stanford Invitational next weekend in Palo Alto, CA.
