(March 21, 2008) - Junior
Cristina Olivas ran an NCAA Regional Qualifying time in the
her first ever race in the 3000m Steeple Chase at the Irvine
Collegiate Invitational Friday afternoon.
Olivas completed the race
in a school-record and personal best time of 10:28.45, winning
the competition over 15 seconds faster than her closest competitor.
The mark is also a Big West Conference best so far this season.
"It was a breakthrough
performance for Cristina and for the UC Riverside Track Program
today. We are extremely proud of her accomplishment,"
said assistant coach Nate Browne.
The Highlanders continue
competition at the Irvine Collegiate Invitational Saturday.
