(May 17, 2008) – The UC Riverside Women's Track &
Field team finished in second place at the big West Championships
this weekend – the highest finish in UCR's history with
the conference. As she has done all year long, Brenda Martinez
paved the way with a win in the 1500m, and she led a quintet
of Highlanders who took the one through five slots in the
800m.
Uchechi Egeonuigwe took home the conference championship in
the 400m Hurdles and ran the first leg of the Highlanders
4x400 team ahead of Ashley Williams, TreAna Hundley and Tajma
Stephenson, that finished in second pace.
Lisa Lopez finished second to Martinez in the 1500m, Cristina
Olivas took second in the 3000m Steeplechase and Ashley Wilder
came in second in the Long Jump.
On the men's side, Pedro Ramos won the 800m, as the Highlander
finished in eighth place overall. Elvin Tabah took second
in the High Jump and Marcus Marbrey came in fourth on the
400m Hurdles.
