UCR's Season Ends With 5-2 Loss To Cal Poly
(May 10, 2008) – The 2008 UC Riverside softball season came to a close Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 loss at Cal Poly, but Friday's win in Game 1 of a double header guaranteed the Highlanders the best conference winning percentage in school history since the move to Division I. Christin Songer closed out her UC Riverside career as the University's career leader in wins (31) and strikeouts (292) in the Division I era.

Highlanders Tie School Record For Conference Wins
(May 9, 2008) – It took them a little longer than they probably anticipated but after several near misses the 2008 UC Riverside softball team (19-36, 5-15) can finally claim the title of Best Highlanders team in the Division I era. Cassie Greenawalt went 4-for-4 with 4 RBI in UCR's 8-0 win over Cal Poly in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader giving the Highlanders five Big West wins on the year and guaranteeing them the best conference winning percentage in the seven-year D-1 history of the program.

Marissa Alvidrez Crushes Record-Breaking Home Run
(May 4, 2008) – UC Riverside sophomore Marissa Alvidrez smacked her school-record 11th home run of the season Sunday afternoon, but it wasn't enough for the Highlanders to take the series finale from Cal State Northridge as they fell 2-1. It was the fifth one-run loss for UCR (18-35, 4-14) in their last six defeats.

UCR Softball Loses Two Heartbreakers To Cal State Northridge
(May 3, 2008) – The UC Riverside softball team (18-34, 4-13) lost two heartbreakers to Cal State Northridge (20-23, 9-8) Saturday afternoon at Amy S Harrison Field as the Matadors stitched together seventh-inning rallies in both ends of the doubleheader to pick up the wins. Christin Songer took to the circle in Game 1 for UCR and allowed just four hits in seven innings, but the Highlanders gave up a single run in the seventh to fall 1-0. In Game 2, the Matadors scored four runs in the seventh to erase a 3-0 UCR lead and sweep the doubledip.

UC Riverside Loses Series Finale To No. 17 Long Beach State
(April 27, 2008) – The UC Riverside softball team (18-32, 4-11) lost the series finale to No. 17 Long Beach State University Sunday afternoon, 8-0. Just one day after dropping two close one-run decisions to the 49ers, the Highlanders fell behind early giving up three runs in the first and three in the third while LBSU's Brooke Turner pitched a no-hitter through three. UCR third baseman Kristie Martinez broke up the no-hit bid in the fourth with a two-out double.

UCR Drops Two One-Run Games At Long Beach State
(April 26, 2008) – The UC Riverside softball team (18-31, 4-10) traveled to 17th ranked Long Beach State University Saturday afternoon, dropping two tightly-contested one-run decisions to the 49ers, 2-1 and 4-3. Amanda Klimczak got the start in game one for the Highlanders drawing the unenviable assignment of going against Long Beach State's Brooke Turner - she of the 0.68 era and the 21-4 record. Klimczak matched Turner pitch for pitch through six, but the 49ers plated a single run in the seventh for the win.

UCR Loses Two To CSU Bakersfield
(April 24, 2008) – The UC Riverside softball team (18-29) lost both ends of a non-conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon to CSU Bakersfield (22-21) at Amy S Harrison Field as a series of defensive lapses cost them in Game 1, and the team's bats went collectively silent in Game 2.

UCR Drops Rubber Match With UC Davis
(April 20, 2008) – The UC Riverside softball team (18-27, 4-8) lost the final game of a three-game Big West Conference series with UC Davis on Sunday and is currently tied for seventh in the Big West with Pacific. Senior pitcher Christin Songer had her streak of consecutive scoreless innings snapped at 21 in the first inning as a defensive miscue and two long balls staked the Aggies to a 5-0 lead before the third out was recorded.

Softball Splits Doubleheader With UC Davis
(April 19, 2008) – The UC Riverside softball team (18-26, 4-7) split its doubleheader with UC Davis Saturday afternoon taking the first game 1-0 and dropping the second 7-3. Senior pitcher Christin Songer extended her consecutive scoreless innings streak to 21 in the first game by throwing seven blank frames in a complete-game four-hitter. She last gave up a run on March 29 against UC Santa Barbara. Songer now sports a 1.97 earned run average in conference play with 24 strikeouts in 32 innings.

Christin Songer Named Big West Softball PItcher Of The Week
(April 14, 2008) – The Big West Conference today named UC Riverside senior Christin Songer the Big West Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week. Songer took home the award following 14 innings of shutout softball over the weekend, striking out 15 and allowing just eight base hits in leading the Highlanders (17-25, 3-6) to a two-to-one series win over Pacific. It was UCR's first conference softball series win since the 2003 season.

UCR Makes It Two Conference Wins In A Row
(April 12, 2008) – The UC Riverside softball team (16-25, 2-6) picked up its second straight conference win Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader with Pacific (22-24, 4-4). Christin Songer (7-5) pitched a complete-game three-hitter in the 2-0 win striking out 10. Pacific took game two of the three-game series 5-1. The rubber match is scheduled for Sunday at UCR's Amy S. Harrison Field at noon.

Murray Named “Responsibility Matters Good Sport Of The Month”
(April 11, 2008) – Anheuser-Busch has teamed up with UC Riverside athletics and has chosen UCR senior softball player April Murray as the March recipient of the "Responsibility Matters Good Sport of the Month."

(April 6, 2008) – The UC Riverside softball team (15-24, 1-5) ended its string of 33 consecutive conference losses with a 6-4 road win over Cal State Fullerton on Sunday afternoon.

(April 5, 2008) – The UC Riverside softball team dropped both ends of a double-header Saturday afternoon to Cal State Fullerton getting shut out in the first game, 11-0, and falling in the second game 7-3.
