Softball Loses Series Finale
To No. 17 Long Beach State University

Box Score

(April 27, 2008) - The UC Riverside softball team (18-32, 4-11) lost the series finale to No. 17 Long Beach State University Sunday afternoon, 8-0.

Just one day after dropping two close one-run decisions to the 49ers, the Highlanders fell behind early giving up three runs in the first and three in the third while LBSU's Brooke Turner pitched a no-hitter through three. UCR third baseman Kristie Martinez broke up the no-hit bid in the fourth with a two-out double, but UCR failed to score in the inning.

The Highlanders mounted a threat in the fifth inning as Tiana Towns picked up a one-out single and moved to second following a walk to Krystal Marquez, but Turner got out of the inning unscathed. The 49ers tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the scoring.

UCR returns home this weekend for a three-game Big West Conference series vs. Cal State Northridge. Saturday's doubleheader begins at noon as does Sunday's single game where the Highlanders will honor their 2008 senior class.
