(Apr. 9, 2005) - The UC Riverside men’s tennis team
lost 4-3 to visiting UC San Diego Saturday at the Student
Recreation Center courts in a match that had been rescheduled
from February 20 due to rain.
In
a tight contest throughout, the overall outcome came down
to the number five singles. UCR’s Jeremy Owens had overcome
dropping the first set 6-1 to Blake Meister and forced a decisive
third set by winning the second 6-2. Meister squeezed by in
the third to take the match, and the final point, 7-5.
In
other singles action, UCR won at numbers two, four, and six,
thanks to straight-set victories by Mark Contreras, Christian
Frick, and Jordan Leo. Playing a rare match at #1 doubles,
Frick and Contreras also got their first victory of the season
at that spot but it was not enough to win out. The Tritons
split the other three singles matches and took the doubles
point to hold on for the victory.
