(April 16, 2008) – The UC Riverside men's tennis team
(7-12, 0-4) topped Vanguard University, the eighth ranked
NAIA school in the nation, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at UC
Riverside's Student Recreation Center Tennis Complex. The
Highlanders have one more match against conference rival Cal
Poly before the Big West Championships, Apr. 24-27.
The Highlanders began the match by taking the doubles point,
sweeping all three matches. UC Riversides' No. 2 tandem of
Quoc Doan
and John Park

with Raineir Matias
and Jack Tadevosian
taking the No. 3 Doubles
match by an identical score. Joe Cartledge
and Ahmad Shiraz
eked out a 9-7 victory at No. 1.
With the doubles point in hand, the Highlanders needed to
at least split the six singles matches to pick up the overall
win, which they did as Park won at No. 4 Singles 6-4, 6-2;
Doan took his No. 5 Singles match 6-1, 6-4; and Shiraz took
care of his opponent at No. 6 Singles 6-1, 6-2.
