(April 11, 2008) – The UC Riverside men's tennis team
(6-12, 0-4) dropped a close non-conference road match at Loyola
Marymount University today falling 4-3.
The Highlanders took the doubles point as their No. 1 Team
of Joe Cartledge and Ahmad Shiraz won 8-4, and No. 2 tandem
of Qouc Doan and John Park picked up an 8-6 decision. Park
picked up a win at No. 4 Singles (7-6, 6-4) as did Doan at
No. 5 (6-1, 6-3), but Cartledge fell 7-6, 6-3 at No. 1 Singles,
Gorjan Kovacevic lost 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 and Shiraz was topped
6-4, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.
That left the match in J
ack Tadevosian's hands at No. 3 Singles.
In addition to playing in the decisive match, the senior from
Glendale, CA was in the unenviable position of facing off
against his younger brother, Sam, who is a senior for the
Lions men's team. The elder Tadevosian took the first set
6-3, but dropped the second 7-5. In the end, youth won out
as Loyola Marymount took the third set 6-2, and the match
4-3.
The Highlanders have two more matches remaining in the regular
season, both at the UCR Student Recreation Center Tennis Complex
– vs. Vanguard on April 16 at 2 p.m. and vs. Cal Poly
on April 20 at noon. The Big West Championship is slated for
April 24-27.
