(November 20, 2007) -- The
Big West Conference announced it’s 2007 Men’s
Soccer all-conference team Tuesday afternoon. Five Highlanders
received recognition, as senior Charles Alamo was named Big
West Goalkeeper of the Year along with first team honors and
sophomore defender David Lozano was named to the second team.
Senior midfielder Andrew Villalobos, sophomore forward Nathan
Paterson, and freshman forward Cito Soriano all received Honorable
Mention.
Alamo picks up his first
Keeper of the Year award and earns his first career first-team
honor after leading the Big West in saves (79), saves per
game (4.16), third in shutouts (6) and fourth in goals against
average (1.03). On the Big West career lists, he ranks second
with 67 matches in goal and seventh in shutouts with 16. He
notched six shutouts this season including one against #21
San Diego State (9/4) that earned him player of the week and
against #25 Cal Poly (10/27).
Lozano picked up his first
career Big West honor after producing a very solid season
from his defender position. He finished with one point on
one assist for the season.
Villalobos picks up his
second career Big West honor after earning second team honors
last season. His goal and two assist from his midfield spot
earned him Big West Honorable Mention. Paterson takes home
his first Big West honor after playing a tough and physical
forward spot, finishing tied for second on the team in points
(8), goals (3) and assists (2). Soriano earns honorable mention
as well after producing a very solid freshman campaign. He
finished as the team leader in points (11), goals (4), tied
for the team lead in assists (3).
