UCR junior Brendan Steele finished at nine-under 203 over
54 holes to dominate the 12th Annual Alvarez Lincoln-Mercury
Inland Empire Amateur Championship at Jurupa Hills Country
Club Monday.
"I've
really put in a lot of practice time this summer and I've
really been playing well," Steele told the Press
Enterprise (Riverside). "But to win like this, well,
you know someone is always going to play well for three days.
You just hope it's you."
Steele
shot a par 70 on the final day to win by three strokes. He
had 14 consecutive pars to start the final round, just three
bogies in 54 holes and at one point was 10-under par. UCR

"I
would like to have shot a little better number today, but
I just didn't hit anything close and it's tough to make putts
here. But this is still sweet. And there is some vindication.
It gets last year out of the way finally," he told the
Press Enterprise.
