(Nov. 27, 2007) –
Former UCR golfer Brandan Steele
continues to move towards his goal of becoming a member of
the PGA tour as he has advanced to the final stage of this
years PGA Qualifying school.
The former Highlander star,
who now makes his home in Idyllwild, will be among the group
of 153 players who will take part of the 108-hole marathon
that makes up Q-schools final chapter to be held beginning
Nov 28, at Winter Gardens, FL.
The top 30 players and
ties will earn status on the PGA tour. Steele, a 2005 graduate
of UCR shot a 10-under par 278 during the recent tournament
held at Oak Valley Golf Club to advance to this week's final
stage.
While a member of the Highlander
golf team, Steele was a four-time selection to the All Big
West Men's Golf Team and was a two-time winner of the GCAA
(Golf Coaches Association of America) All-America Scholar
Award, and was a two-time NCAA All Pacific Region Honoree.
Steele also collected victories in four collegiate tournaments
and won the scoring average honor at UCR three times.
After playing in Canadian
tour and mini-tour events for the past couple of years, Steele
has already earned status on the Nationwide Tour for the up
coming year by advancing this far in qualifying school.
