Riverside freshman Nick Paez (San Bernardino, Calif./Arroyo
Valley HS) and UC Davisr Bryana Gregory (Chico, Calif./Pleasant
Valley HS) earned Big West Men's and Women's Golfer of the
Month.
Paez captured his first
career Big West honor on the strength his sixth place finish
at the Bill Cullum Invite and second place showing at the
Sycuan Collegiate Invite. He led the Highlanders in both events,
helping them post team finishes of seventh and sixth, respectively.
At the Bill Cullum, hosted by Cal State Northridge on Oct.
15-16, Paez posted an even par score of 216 (72-70-74), including
a 2-under par 70 in the second round to help him finish sixth
among the 90 players in the field.
Amongst extremely windy
conditions, Paez nearly outplayed the entire 100-player field
at the Sycuan Collegiate Invite on Oct. 22-23. He posted a
54-hole total of 217 (+1), carding a pair of 72's before finishing
with a final round of 73. He ended up just two strokes shy
from claiming medalist honors. Paez recorded an impressive
six-round scoring average of 72.1 for the month.
