(Oct. 1, 2007) – UC
Riverside’s men’s golf team (296-309-287-892)
finished in 14th at the Shoot-Out at Angel Park in Las Vegas
hosted by the University of Hawaii. Sophomore Andrew Cortez
shot even par for the tournament and finished tied for seventh
to lead UCR.
Cortez (70-72-71-213) was
UCR’s top golfer throughout the tournament. Freshman
Nick Paez (76-82-66-224) finished t-53rd, shot a 66 in the
third and final round, tied with several golfers as the best
round of the tournament. Sophomore Scott Clayton (76-77-76-229)
and senior Steve Solis (76-78-75-229) tied for 70th. Unfortunatly
Spencer Paschall was disqualified after the second round and
didn’t qualify with a final score.
UNLV won the tournament,
as they were the only team to finish under par, closing out
with a five under par 840. The Big West’s Cal State
Northridge finished in second place and UNLV’s B team
came in third.
Brandon Crick of Gonzaga
fired a six under par 207 taking the individual title, on
shot ahead of Seung-Su-Han of UNLV. Four golfers finished
tied for third at –2.
The Highlanders next compete
at the Bill Cullum Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge
at Simi Valley, CA Oct 15-16.
