(Nov. 10, 2007) - The UC
Riverside men's basketball team opened their 2007-08 season
with a hard fought 68-56 loss to 2007 NCAA Tournament participant
Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Sean
Cunningham led the Highlanders with 15 points and senior Larry
Cunningham added 13.
The Highlanders (0-1) kept
it close and proved throughout the game that they could play
with TTU (1-0), trailing only 35-31 at the half. UCR even
cut the Red Raider lead to 45-44 midway through the second
half.
The story was the turnovers
that proved to be costly for UCR as Texas Tech forced 27 Highlander
turnovers and took advantage later in second half to put the
game out of reach with a 17-3 run. TTU scored 28 points off
of the 27 UCR turnovers.
Martin Zeno led the Red
Raiders with 19 points and Alan Voskul added 12 points as
the Highlanders lost their eighth straight season-opener.
Junior Aaron Scott finished
with 11 points and nine rebounds for UCR.
The Highlanders will look
to get new Head Coach Jim Wooldridge his first UCR victory
on Monday when they continue their Texas trip, this time with
a stop in Arlington, TX for a game against University of Texas-
Arlington at 6:00 pm (PST).
