Diggs, Barlow Accept Scholarships, Will Join UCR in 2007-08

(July 6, 2007) - Freshman guard Jalonni Diggs of Verbum Dei HS in Los Angeles and sophomore transfer Cleavon Barlow of Imperial Valley College and Canyon Springs HS in Moreno Valley, CA have each accepted scholarship offers and plan to join the UC Riverside men's basketball program for the 2007-08 season, Head Coach Jim Wooldridge announced Friday.

As a senior at Verbum Dei, Diggs, a 6-1, 180 pound guard, averaged 14.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He shot 49% from the field (92-of-186) and 37% (30-of-81) from the three-point line. He had four 20-point or better games, including a 26-point effort against Notre Dame. Diggs played on the LA Dream Team at the Real Deal Tournament in Fayetteville, AR.

"We are very excited to add another outstanding freshman student-athlete to our incoming class," Wooldridge said. "We are expecting Jalonni to make an immediate contribution to our program."

Barlow, a 6-2, 205 pound guard, was a two-year letterwinner at Canyon Springs HS, playing on the 2003 Ivy League Champions and the CIF runners-up. He went on to play one season at Imperial Valley College during the 2005-06 season, averaging 10.8 points and 1.7 assists per game. He did not play during the 2006-07 season.

"Cleavon is a tremendous athlete who is a fit for the way we want to play," Wooldridge said. "With the addition of these young players, we should have one of the most athletic backcourts in the Big West Conference."
