(January 2, 2008) –The
Highlanders lost to the University of Pacific Tigers (9-4,
1-0) 82-54 in their conference opener Wednesday night in Stockton,
CA. Senior Larry Cunningham finished with a team-high 14 points
in the losing effort for UCR (3-9, 0-1).
A tough night of shooting
by the Highlanders who finished 18-of-54 (33.3%) and the hot-shooting
by the Tigers led to UCR’s third straight defeat. Pacific
shot 29- of-48 (60.4%) on the night including 13-for-29 (44.8%)
from behind the arc which proved to be too much for the young
Riverside squad to overcome.
UCR did make their free-throws,
finishing 13-15 (86.7%) and also took care of the ball, committing
only 10 turnovers. But again the scoring was not there as
Cunningham and freshman Jalonni Diggs were the only Highlanders
to finish with double-digits in points as Diggs knocked down
three shots from long distance. Pacific couldn’t miss,
finishing with four players with double-figures in points,
led by a game-high 21 by Chad Troyer who finished with six
three’s.
The Highlanders continue
on the road and travel over to face UC Davis in Davis, CA
on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
