Soto Named 2007-08 Big West Academic All-Conference

Junior forward Christian Soto was named to the 2007-08 Big West Academic All-Conference Team.

(April 8, 2008) – Four members of the UC Riverside men's and women's basketball teams were honored today with inclusion on the 2007-08 Big West Academic All-Conference Team for winter sports: Christian Soto on the men's squad and Katerina Glyniadaki, Courtney Good and Jessie Schmuckal for the women.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes have to maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, have attained a sophomore standing academically and competed in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.

Soto is a junior art/theatre major who started 29 of 30 games for the Highlanders this season and was second on the team in rebounding averaging 4.2 per game. He averaged 5.1 points per contest on 49.0 percent shooting from the field and paced UCR with 15 blocks on the year. He was also named the co-recipient of the Big West Best Hustle Player award.

Glyniadaki is a junior communications studies major who played in 14 games for UC Riverside in 2007-08 and averaged 2.5 points per game connecting on 56.5 percent of her field goal attempts. Good, a senior business major, saw action in 18 games for the Highlanders and posted a two-to-one assist to turnover ratio in 4.7 minutes per game. Schmuckal is a sophomore history/administrative major who averaged 4.1 minutes of play in 18 games for UCR grabbing 8.0 rebounds per 40 minutes on the season.
