(Nov. 13, 2007) - NCAA announced
today that junior Brenda Martinez earned an at-large selection
to join fellow cross country runner Ulices Pina at the 2007
NCAA Cross Country Championships in Indiana beginning on Monday.
The pair will be UCR’s first male and female althetes
in school history to compete at the National Championship.
Last Saturday, Martinez
finished 22nd in the 6K course to lead the womens squad to
an 8th place finish and Pina finished 19th in the 10K course
to lead the mens squad to a 12th place finish. It was both
teams best ever placing at the NCAA Regionals since joining
Division I in 2001.
The Tournament is hosted by Indiana State University at the
LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wabash
Family Sports Center on Nov. 19, 2007.
