(June 18, 2008) - Highlanders Head Cross Country Coach Irv
Ray announced today that the Big West Men's & Women's Cross
Country Championships will return to UC Riverside's Agricultural
Operations Course on Saturday, November 1, 2008. Fans interested
in receiving additional information about the Big West Cross
Country Championships may do so by contacting the UC Riverside
Athletics Ticket Office at (951) UCR-GOLD.
The UCR Ag-Ops Course is located adjacent to campus on the
420-acre Citrus Research Center and Agricultural Experiment
Station (CRC-AES) on the corner of Martin Luther King Blvd
and Canyon Crest Drive. Originally developed for the 1979
NCAA Division II National Championships, the course previously
played host to the Big West Championships in 2002, 2004 and
2005 and is the site of the annual Riverside Invitational
as well.
Last year's Highlanders women's cross country team finished
in second place in the Big West and the men's squad finished
third - the highest finish for both teams since making the
transition to Division I in 2001. Brenda Martinez's fourth
place finish on the women's side was the best ever finish
for a Highlanders woman and Ulices Pina's sixth place time
in the men's championship set the university standard on the
men's side.
Prior to the conference meet, both the men's and women's
squads will participate in three Invitationals beginning with
the Nevada Twilight Cross Country Classic on Friday, August
29. Following the conference championships are the NCAA West
Regional Championships hosted by Stanford on Saturday, November
15, and the NCAA National Championship hosted by Indiana State
on Monday, November 24.
