Senior
Aaron Wible hit his team-leading fourth home run of
the season against #13 USD Tuesday night. |
(April
8, 2008) - UC Riverside couldn’t over come committing
six errors as they lost 11-4 to 13th ranked San Diego at the
Riverside Sports Complex Tuesday night.
Brandon Schnebly and Aaron
Wible each recorded three hits for the Highlanders (9-17).
After allowing a USD (23-11) run in the third, UCR put up
two runs in their half to take a 2-1 lead after three innings.
Drew
Garcia singled home Carl Uhl and Wible sinlged home Schnebly
one batter later to complete the scoring in the inning.
The Toreros answered with three runs in the fourth and later
put up single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. After
USD scored their run in the seventh to open up a 6-2 lead,
Wible brought the Highlanders to within two, after launching
his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot with two
outs in the seventh to make it 6-4.
That would be as close as UCR would get as San Diego starting
pitcher Ricardo Pecina continued to make his pitches and paint
the inside corner throughout the night. The left-handed throwing
Pecina finished with seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings and Darrin
Campbell held off the Highlanders in his 2.2 innings of relief
work.
USD took advantage of three Riverside errors in the eighth
as the Toreros put up four runs and later added a single run
in the ninth to put the game out of reach at 11-4.
Rob
Waite suffered the loss after allowing three runs in his
four innings.
Schnebly has recorded two or more hits in three of his four
starts and Garcia and Joey
Gonzales each extended their hitting streaks to nine and
eight games, respectively.
The Highlanders turn right back around to face #13 USD in
San Diego tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
