Question:
"Dear
Stan,
Why doesn't UCR have a Men's volleyball team? I have seen
that many of
the other school's in the Big West have a men's volleyball
team. Is there
any plan to have one in the coming years?"

"Dear
Azher,
Thanks for your email regarding your interest in Men's Volleyball
and a possible team in Intercollegiate Athletics. Last year
we added 6 sports to our department offering: Men's and Women's
Golf, Men's and Women's Soccer, and Men's and Women's Indoor
Track and Field. That brought our total to 17 sports here
at UCR. I mandated a 5 year moratorium on waiting until we
add any more sports so we can well demonstrate that we can
financially support the 17 we have. We are now in balance
with respect to our adherence to Title IX and gender equity.
To add Men's Volleyball would require adding another Women's
sport of equal numbers of participants. We are going to wait
due to our limited funding.
I have received similar messages of interest in Men's Volleyball
and encourage them to visit or contact Lindy Fenex, the Director
of the Student Recreation Center, to start a Club Team. I
believe that process may be under way right now. Thanks again
for your interest in our Intercollegiate Athletics programs.
I hope you will come to see our other teams play. "
