"Hello, I was just interested in knowing if UCR will ever have a swim team. I know we have a pool, but no team. I find that a little odd. Is there any chance thata team will form in the next four years?

Stan's Reply :

"Dear Allison,
Thanks for your email of inquiry about a swim team. It is doubtful that we will have a Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Team at UCR within the next 4 years. I wish we could have one, however. First, our UCR pool is not of NCAA regulations in size. I do know a pool is planned for the Student Recreation Center area, but I do not know of a construction start date for it.

I would want you to know that I am NOT committed to adding any other sports to our 17 sports offerings until we demonstrate that we can properly take care of the funding and facilities for the programs we already have. It would be unfair to the entire direction of the Athletics program at UCR to entertain such thoughts. That is not to say that we do not WANT swimming. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The same is true for Men's Volleyball, Men's and Women's Badminton, Rugby, Women's Field Hockey, Men's and Women's Gymnastics, Men's and Women's Bowling, Men's and Women's Crew, etc. I hope this helps.
