About the Mascot

When UC Riverside opened in February 1954, it had classrooms, a new Physical Education Building, and a student body eager to inaugurate the new school. What it didn't have, however, was a mascot. Click here to read about the evolution of the Highlanders.

The UCR Cheer Team

The Highlanders' award-winning cheer team performs at many home events and has won several national competitions.

UCR Fight Song "Brave Scots"

Written by long-time pep band director Bill Helms, the Highlanders' fight song debuted in 2001. Click here to see the music and hear the tune.

The UCR Pipe Band

The UCR Pep Band

Excitement and enthusiasm throughout the season for both Women's and Men's home basketball games is provided by the Pep Band. This energizing group is open to any UCR student.
