The UC Riverside Athletics Hall of Fame was
formed in 1986 to recognize those individuals who had made significant
contributions to the Highlander athletics programs. The Hall of
Fame is located in the lobby of the Physical Education building.
The most recent induction ceremony was in 1997.
Quarterbacked UCR to an undefeated season in 1960… selected 1960
Small College All-American… UCR head football coach 1966-1969…
offensive coordinator at Stanford and assistant coach with the
Green Bay Packers before serving as head coach of the Edmonton
Eskimos in 1984.

Two-time UCR most valuable player in volleyball… named UCR most
outstanding female athlete three consecutive years.

Attained All-American honors 4 consecutive years… 1972 NCAA Division
II long jump champion… twice selected UCR male athlete of the
year… recipient of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Award for
academic and athletic achievement.

Four-time All-American swimmer… as a freshman established school
records in six events… single handedly placed UCR 17th in the
1968 NAIA National Championships.

Led UCR to CCAA Basketball titles in 1970 and ’72 and third place
in the 1970 NCAA Division II National Tournament… named 1970 College
Division Player of the Year by the Southern California Basketball
Writers… UCR career scoring and rebound leader.

AAU All-American Basketball selections in 1974, ’75, and ’76…
played on AAU National Championship basketball team in 1975… played
in USVBA Volleyball Nationals in 1978, ’80, and ’84.

Led the nation’s division II receivers with 67 catches in 1975…
All-American selection in 1975… 10 year NFL career (1976-1985)
with the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos… appeared in 5 NFC
championship games and 2 Super Bowls.

Won the regional championship game as a starting pitcher on the
1977 NCAA Division II National Championship team… selected by
the San Diego Padres in June, 1978 draft… brought up the major
leagues in 1981… was the starting pitcher for the Padres in game
1 of the 1984 World Series.

Led UCR to the 1978 ISKF Collegiate Kumite and 1979 ISKF Collegiate
Kumite and Kata team championships… 1978 and ’79 ISKF Kumite champion…
selected to 1979 U.S. Pan Am Games silver medal team in Kumite.

Named All-American in 1971… two-time CCAA Player of the Year,
1970-’71 and 1971-’72… Southern California College Division Player
of the Year, ’71-’72… holds UCR records for game and single season
rebounds… drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA in April,
1972… played professionally with the Memphis Tams of the ABA,
1972-’73.

Led nation and set a UCR single-season record for stolen bases
in 1975… holds UCR career record for stolen bases… was all-district
and all-conference in ’75… signed by California Angels in June,
1975… played professional baseball with the Seattle Mariners,
1980-’81.

Captain and MVP of AIAW College Division Volleyball Championship
Team, 1977… setter on volleyball teams which appeared in four
straight national championships… first team All-AIAW in 1977…
starter on UCR softball, basketball, and volleyball teams for
four years.

Two-time UCR Female Athlete of the Year, 1977-’78, ’78-’79… played
on AIAW College Division Volleyball Championship Team, 1977… leading
scorer for four straight years in basketball… four-year starter
on basketball, volleyball, and softball… played for the New York
Star of the Women’s Professional Basketball Association, 1979-’80.

NCAA Division II All-American four years track, three years
cross country… NCAA Division II 5000 Meter champion, 1982… all-time
top ten Division II performer… two-time UCR male athlete of the
year, 1978-’79, ’79-’80.

In 1968, ranked seventh in the nation among small college quarterbacks…
set eight school records—including total offense, points scored,
and touchdown passes—on the way to being named Most Outstanding
Player in ’68… was honored by Loyola University as “Most Outstanding
Opponent.”

Was 1970 College Division NCAA Individual Champion… set a course
and tournament record with a 66 in championships at Youngstown,
Ohio… was two-time All-America selection… played 15 years as a
member of the Professional Golfers Association, earning nearly
$500,000.

Helped lead UCR to two conference championships… was named CCAA
Most Valuable Player in 1973 after leading UCR to school-record
25-5 season, including a West Regional Championship… his 376 rebounds
in ’73 ranks third on UCR all-time list… is sixth on UCR career
rebounding list despite playing just two varsity seasons.

Became first female basketball player in UCR history to be named
All-America in 1982, and also received Academic All-America honors…
led nation in scoring in ’82, averaging 27.9 points per game,
and received NCAA Co-Player of the Year and CCAA Female Athlete
of the Year Awards… holds school and conference records in single-season
and career scoring average and blocked shots.

Six-time All-America selection (three in track, three in cross-country)…
three-time Division II National Champion in 1,500 meters… in ’82,
became first athlete to run the indoor mile in less than four
minutes on British soil… named CCAA Male Athlete of the Year in
’82.

Established career scoring and rebounding records while at UCR…
NAIA District 3 All-Star in 1966 and ’67… UCR Athlete of the Year
in ’67… had pro basketball tryouts with Oakland Denver.

Was a two-time All-American at center for the Highlanders in 1972
and ’73… was two-time All-Conference, team captain, and Most Valuable
Lineman… served as an offensive line coach in the Canadian Football
League, UNLV, and Fresno State.

Became the first UCR distance runner to win a national championship
by capturing the NCAA Division II 5,000 Meter Title in 1977… also
was an All-American in cross country… remained active in distance
running after graduation, participating in the Richmond (VA) Marathon
and Bay to Breakers Race in San Francisco.

Was a three-time All-American in tennis (1981, ’82, and ’83)…
was undefeated in conference play in 1982… was chosen conference’s
top no. 1 singles player in both ’82 and ’83.

Helped lead Highlanders to 1982 NCAA Division II Volleyball title…
set NCAA playoff record for most kill attempts in one match in
’82… was named to two all-regional playoffs teams… also played
professionally for one year in Italy.

Among UCR’s first four-letterman… as a freshman, finished eighth
in the Southern California Intercollegiate Golf Championships…
in 1957, helped UCR place third behind USC and UCLA… served as
president of the Southern California Section of the American College
of Dentists.

Earned varsity letters as a starting defensive back in football
and as a reserve in baseball… first elected to the state assembly
in 1982, his district included 14 cities and unincorporated areas
of Riverside County.

An All-American water polo player in 1972, he led the Highlanders
to numerous tournament championships during his three years on
the team… was All-California Collegiate Athletic Association three
times… set single-season UCR scoring record with 82 goals in ’72…
upon graduation, coached briefly in the aquatics program at UCR.

Known as a tenacious hitter, he was a three-year starter at defensive
end… in 1973, he was UCR’s MVP and All-California Collegiate Athletic
Association… UCR was 17-3 during his last two years… in 1974,
he played for the Hawaiians of the World Football League.

An All-American shortstop, he helped lead the Highlanders to the
school’s first National Championship in 1977… set record for games
played in a season (62) in ’77… played for the California Angels
in 1981 and ’83, and led Pacific Coast League in hits while playing
for Spokane in 1982… managed Riverside Red Wave in 1989, and has
managed in the San Diego Padre organization since retiring from
the major leagues.

Was MVP of the California Collegiate Athletic Association as the
setter on UCR’s National Championship Team… a three-time captain,
she was an All-American in 1983… from 1980 to 1987, competed on
United Stated Volleyball Association teams.

Captain and quarterback of the football team in 1958 and ’59…
UCR Athlete of the Year in 1959… chair of the Department of City
and Regional Planning at UC Berkeley.

Four-year letterman in basketball… fourth among UCR’s leading
career scorers and rebounders… member of the Australian Olympic
Basketball Teams in 1964 and 1968…
drafted by the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.

Played professional football with the Detroit Lions, Los Angeles
Rams, and Memphis Showboats of the USFL… tight end on UCR’s football
team in 1972 and 1973… script writer and actor.

Captain of UCR National Championship karate teams in 1979 and
1980… individual National Champion in 1980… assistant karate coach
at UCR.

Earned All-America honors in water polo in 1980 and in swimming
in both 1980 and 1981… placed second in the 200 freestyle and
500 freestyle at the 1980 National Championships… two-time UCR
Most Valuable Athlete.

Member of the 1982 UCR National Championship Team… earned All-America
honors in volleyball in 1981 and 1983… played professional volleyball
in France and on the beach… head coach of the Riverside Volleyball
Club.

Although women’s intercollegiate sports were not available when
she was at UCR, Judy was a nationally recognized runner… finished
fifth in the 800 meter U.S. Olympic Trials… at the 1961 National
Track & Field Championships, was fourth in the 800 and fifth in
the 400 meter dash… won the 1967 Las Vegas Marathon and 1974 first
Women’s National Marathon Championships… also won the 1977 National
50 Mile Track Championship.

Was an All-American swimmer in the 100 and 200 yard butterfly
in 1971… was also a four-year letterman in water polo, and was
co-captain his senior year… since graduation, has attained a black
belt in karate… graduated in top 10 of dental school class of
130.

Helped begin UCR karate program in 1970… attained degrees in anthropology
and education from UCR, and competed for karate teams in ’72,
’75, ’78, and ’80… was an individual champion in ’80, and helped
UCR to team titles in ’78 and ’80… also honored as Mountain States
Champion in ’79 and South-Western Regional Champion in ’81.

In her four years as a player, UCR finished second twice and were
AIAW National Champions in ’77… was twice all-tournament during
National Championship play… continued career on USVBA Senior Circuit,
playing on National Champion in ’86, and was a Second-Team All-America
choice.

At the time of his graduation in 1984, ranked third on UCR career
rebounding list… was two-time captain, team MVP, All-CCAA, and
All-West region… drafted by the Golden State Warriors of the National
Basketball Association in 1984… participated in NBA Pro-Am League
in ’85.

An outstanding all-around athlete, DeHayes was a four-year started
in three sports at UCR… in softball, she was a solid third baseman
and shortstop… was a point guard in basketball, and helped lead
team to AIAW Regional Championship in ’73… was the no. 1 singles
player in tennis, and in ’72 played in AIAW National Tournament.

Went to high school, junior college, and college in Riverside…
after transferring from Riverside City College, was an all-league
pitcher at UCR in ’72, and also played shortstop… in ’73, was
captain and co-most valuable player for Highlanders.

Her athletic skills allowed her to excel in four sports for the
Highlanders… an outstanding shortstop in softball, she also was
a top singles player in tennis, and went on to compete on senior
tennis circuit after leaving UCR… also participated in three marathons.

Became the first football player drafted out of UCR, when he was
selected by the Los Angeles Rams… a tight end at UCR, he played
linebacker for the Rams, then returned to tight end when he played
for the Hawaiians of the World Football League.

UCR’s first three-time all-American in volleyball… was NCAA Player
of the Year in 1986, UCR and CCAA Female Athlete of the Year in
the 1986-1987 academic year… led UCR to NCAA Division II Title
despite fracturing a bone in her foot in the semifinals… after
graduating from UCR, played on the Los Angeles Starlites, helping
them to the Professional Volleyball League Championship in 1987…
in her first year as head coach, led UC Santa Clara to conference
title and NCAA playoffs.

As a freshman second baseman in 1983, was all-region in helping
the Highlanders to NCAA Division II National Title… a two-time
All-American in 1983 and ’84, he set numerous offensive records
while at UCR, including marks for consecutive hits (10), home
runs in a season (16), and home runs in a career (30)… he was
drafted in the third round by the San Diego Padres in 1984 and
played in the organization through 1988 before back surgery cut
short a promising career in the big leagues.
Inducted April 19, 1994.
An all-region performer in cross country, he won a national title
in 1981 in the 5000 meter race at the NCAA Division Track and
Field Championships… gave up running competitively after his sophomore
year in ’81 to pursue his love for aviation… after graduating
from UCR, he entered the Air Force and flew 52 missions in Desert
Storm, including the initial attacks.

A two-time All-America selection in ’84 and ’85, he also had one
of the best single seasons in UCR history in ’85… was drafted
after his junior year by New York Yankees but returned to UCR
for senior season… in ’85, he hit .427 (second highest in school
history) and set a school record with 67 RBI… was drafted by San
Francisco Giants and was chosen California League Player of the
Year in ’86… reached triple A ball with the Giants before retiring.

As a sophomore in 1982, helped lead the highlanders to NCAA Division
II National Title, and team participated in playoffs every season
during her four years at UCR… was one of the nation’s top players
in ’84, receiving All-America honors… after graduation, became
a member of California Highway Patrol, where she won numerous
athletic honors.

Known for her consistency, she was a three-time team captain for
the Highlanders… also led the conference in scoring her senior
year on the way to All-CCAA honors… left UCR as the no. 2 career
scorer and rebounder.

After becoming the youngest international karate champion at age
17, Myles enrolled at UCR and competed in four team and individual
karate championships… his senior year, he finished second individually
in Kumite, and led UCR to the ’84 Team Championship.

The starting quarterback for UCR’s final two football teams, Hayes
led UCR to two straight undefeated championship seasons in the
California Collegiate Athletic Association… he threw at least
one touchdown pass in his 21 games, holds 16 UCR career and single
season records, and led the nation in passing his senior year
on the way to All-American honors… he earned his BA from UCR in
1976 and went on to a successful high school and college coaching
career.

Himmelberg-Stelluti was a pioneer for UCR volleyball… after Nevada-Las
Vegas dropped its program, she transferred to UCR for her final
collegiate season… in 1981, she became the first UCR volleyball
player named Most Valuable Player of the California Collegiate
Athletic Association and led the Highlanders to the first NCAA-sponsored
post-season tournament… she played professional volleyball in
Italy, another first for a UCR player, for six seasons… Himmelberg-Stelluti,
who received a BA from UCR in 1985, passed away due to cancer
in 1995.

Reynolds had many outstanding achievements as a basketball player
and coach at UCR… as a player, he helped lead UCR to two West
Regional Championships and was named California Collegiate Athletic
Association Most Valuable Player in 1975… he was eighth on the
UCR all-time scoring list… after receiving his BA from UCR in
1976, he became UCR’s top assistant basketball coach… during his
16 years as assistant coach, UCR won seven CCAA titles, received
10 NCAA bids, advanced to the elite eight three times, and finished
second in the nation in 1995… he moved on from UCR to become assistant
basketball coach at the University of San Francisco.

Carsley set five single season and two career marks while at UCR…
led Highlanders to the 1977 National Championship, and established
records for runs (59), hits (102), total bases (143), batting
average (.416), and RBI (58), and career standards for runs and
career batting average (.394) in his two-year UCR career… drafted
by the Toronto Blue Jays, he played in the Florida State league
before playing professionally for Torino, Italy, and led the league
in RBI in 1979.

A four-year started for Highlanders, he was second on the all-time
scoring list at 928 points at the time of his graduation and the
career leader in assistants… was co-MVP his senior year and helped
lead UCR to the playoffs in each of his last two seasons… as an
assistant coach for the Highlanders from 1969-1975, Sanderson
helped guide teams to six regional tournaments and three trips
to the Regional Championships… he then moved to Cal State University,
Stanislaus, where he served as athletic director and men’s basketball
coach, and was twice named NCAA West Region Coach of the Year…
completed his athletic administration career as assistant athletic
director of athletic development at UNLV from 1983 through the
national championship year of 1990.
